All your CRD owners (and other diesel engines) out there might find this interesting, found it while I was searching the net:

http://www.dieselsecret.com/index.html

It claims that you can make your own diesel (not bio-diesel) for 46 cents. Anyone ever try it?

How is this NOT bio diesel? Regardless of how you process waste vegetable oil from restaurants, its still coming from a bio source. In fact from their FAQ "our fuel is 87% pure vegetable oil." Wow, talk about trying to hype your product.

It does not contain methanol or lye

Nor does biodiesel "contain" methanol or lye. The two are blended and used as a catalyst the same as this stuff. Its snake oil, plain and simple. Here's some more info about it. Feel free to destroy your fuel injectors... I don't think that's covered under warranty (and if you do make a warranty claim I'm ratting you out). :P

I'll be happy to tell you what's wrong with it: it's a scam. They propose selling you stuff that has a VERY high "profit margin."

First of all, their "secret" formula amounts to mothballs dissolved in xylol. Both those components are VERY high octane, and amount to adding racing gasoline to diesel fuel: bad for your engine. Putting them in diesel fuel accidentally put into a gasser at least makes a certain amount of sense. Putting them through a diesel engine is simply stupid.

Secondly, the mix will undoubtedly have a lower viscosity than what you would get just blending veggie oil with petrodiesel. It will not, however, match the viscosity of petrodiesel. And although it will certainly run just fine in your Mercedes 300D or other 80s vintage diesel, and might, _maybe_, even work in a VW TDI up to 2003 model year, the new PD TDIs and common rail designs like the CRD are likely to yield problems down the road, and maybe not far down the road. Expensive problems, I might add. Think new injection system from pump to injectors. Think $3,000 to $5,000 dollars here. Those old 80s diesels can burn just about anything, and in fact are quite capable of burning straight veggie oil without any of that other garbage.

Whenever I hear about this sort of "fix" for a troubling mixture, I'm reminded of the "catsup fix." If you accidentally burn a batch of catsup into charcoal, you can "fix" it by throwing in a bunch of uncooked whole tomatoes. After all, the AVERAGE will be the same.

I know that in these days of high fuel prices everybody is looking for that magic pinch of doo doo that will save bundles on your go-juice. "Dieselsecret" ain't it.

My pappy taught me to avoid anything that involves a "secret" formula. At 20,000 PSI injection pressure, you would do well to stay away.

Does anyone on here have any personal experience with this "secret formula"? I did not know this was a scam, sorry I created this thread. I thought it would help all you diesel guys during instead of buy B10 at $3.00+.

Don't apologize for creating the thread, you did the right thing by posting about it. By asking for and getting input from those with diesel experience, and having it posted here for all to read, you probably just saved quite a few people a lot of heartache and money, who would otherwise unknowingly have tried this concoction. And you yourself learned it's a scam, and can warn your friends offline.

Hey, if nothing else, your heart was in the right place, trying to help fellow Jeep owners save a few bucks.

As the old saying goes "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".

I really don't mean to and hope I don't sound like a jerk, but this subject (and even the "Diesel Secret" website) is VERY OLD and VERY TIRED. If you happened upon finding the "Secret" site then I'm sure you should have read www.biodieselnow.com and all those other hardcore biodiesel sites where they live, breathe, eat, and sleep everything related to biodiesel.

Next time please do a search on this site or any other, or just search for other sites. This kinda thing is so 2004 if not older, its old news and I would venture to say that many are tired of hearing about it ;)
