So far my wife and I have loved the CRD and the fuel efficiency compared to our IS300. But we wanted to get something a little more efficient.

So we are picking this up tomorrow:

The best part... it matches our CRD... LOL

It's kinda lame, but I'm feeling like a kid who knows he's getting a toy on Christmas morning. I'm excited and don't wanna sleep.. LOL

Looking forward to 40+ MPG! Whoo hoo!

Now that Beetle ought to get great fuel mileage! Should be a real hoot to drive as well! Kinda wish I had one to go along with my CRD also.

Congrats!

I see that you bought your CRD from my local Jeep dealer - whom I drive by on my commute to work every day.

congrats on the new beetle. and yes, it should get great mileage. what year is it, and it is auto or manual? how many miles on it, if it is used?

depending on whether it is a 5-speed manual, an automatic, or one of the new DSG transmissions, as well as where and how you drive it, you'll see anyplace from mid-30s to mid-50s for mileage. The older automatics, driven entirely in the city stop-and-go will obviously be worst, with the manual 5-speeds on the open road delivering the best. In any case, be sure to visit Fred's TDI club at http://forums.tdiclub.com for more info than you ever wanted to know about VW diesels.

Yep, I did, and considering the jerking around they gave me on the CRD, I would never recommend them to anyone... ever.

But the service department seems pretty cool. At least THEY haven't given me a ration of poo yet. :D

It's a 2000 GLS, and a 5-spd. Getting it from a shop/auto reseller that had the previous owner service it there for the last two years. And that previous owner also provided the original dealership records as well. I think I'll be the "2nd" owner if you don't add the car lot into the factor. :)

And I'll be using it for a primarily freeway commute, so I'm sure to see some great mileage!

And... already signed up on the TDI club forum last night! :D Very informative site. I see Old Navy is an old regular there. Guess who I'll nag about TDI info? ;)

Heh...I just picked up a Silver 06 Limited that looks almost exactly like yours..LOL...oh and BTW...i also have an 06 Jetta TDI....and you can find me on the TDIclub as well.

The NB will do a little less mpg than a Golf or Jetta because it has higher drag/wind resistance...but will still do very well with the 5-speed.

I know a lady that has one in Camano Island, WA and she is claiming 46 MPG. Good luck with it.

What year is it (the Beetle)?

I had an '03 golf with the 90hp diesel and it was fantastic. I could drive it like a hot rod and never get under 43 mpg. Should never have traded that car in! :(

We are a 2 diesel family too! We have a GMC truck that we use to haul our camper in addition to our 06 Sport. Now, if I could just get my hubby (the chemist in the family) working on the biodiesel before hunting season starts...

The Beetle is a 2000. It has some bugs that need ironing out, but the TDI Club has been very informative in what the possible causes are, and the lot I bought it from is going to get it squared away. I guess 39MPG is not the greatest mileage in the world. :)

I used to have a 2000 1.8T Jetta. Before that, I had two or three VW's so it's like coming home.

I'll probably end up putting a lot of miles on the Beetle. I'm pretty happy with it overall. Will be happier when the bugs (excuse the pun) or ironed out.

I wish I would have never traded in the 03 GLS Jetta I had. They are so inflated in price right now it is crazy!!!

Heh.. that's what was so cool about this place in Bellingham... they sold it right at book value. I'm pretty happy so far.

Local shop has this on their lot http://www.euroimports.biz/details.asp?vehicle=450
I think he raised the price when he learned there wouldn't be any new ones for a while (one dealer told me late spring next year, so they were getting sticker price).
