This is interesting. I was on Alldata's site looking at TSB's and noticed this referenced: "2005-2007 Liberty w/2.8L TD"

http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Chrysler/1152687600000_1153206000000_08-030-06/303.html

I thought they were discontinuing us....and I don't see anything specifying that this refers to export models. :? [/url]

The Liberty is sometimes called the Cherokee for export models (Europe, UK). Don't know if it is a blanket designation.

This is is a US only TSB folks. If you go to page 3 at alldata Alldata TSB you will see they talk about Grand Cherokee 3.0L V6 MB diesel, and Liberty 2.8L diesel in very bold print. So as I have been telling everyone you will be seeing a Liberty diesel in '07, just not till December/January time frame due to ULSD fuel delivery dates.

I hope so ... not only for those of us who have them (and would like continued parts / support) but for all of those who haven't bought one yet who want one ... :D

This would explain why they went to the effort to create TSB 18-023-06 for the ECM/TCM reflashes. Why would they expend effort and money to develop new programming AFTER the last Liberty CRD rolled off the line May 20, 2006??? This tells me they are still committed and trying to 'get it right' for the future sales of this engine and transmission combo.

Not necessarly for two reasons. First if the CRD goes down in the books as a egr-transmission failure prone vehicle it will mean DC's reputation of being able to make a Diesel goes with it. Remember what the GM diesel did to diesels in this country? Secondly mine is under bumper to bumper warranty for the next two years and 10 month and the 05's have 5 more years of power train warranty. So anything they can do to save replacing transmissions and other parts saves them big $$$ They also removed the word "Durability" from the TSB that could be used against them in any class action :D

I suspect the new fix lies somewhere in between those that believe in conspiracy theories and those that think DCX wants to "get it right".

Since money drives everything in the car business (remember when ford got burned by the decision to continue with the firestone tires as it was "cheaper" to make a few payouts on deaths than a recall). DCX has simply identified the most cost effective way to proceed. The reflash is just an incremental (read "cheap") fix that may, or may not (only time and miles will tell) fix the problem in a manner which may prevent more expensive repairs AND keep the reputaion of the tranny as being lousy. Don't forget, they use the same tranny in other vehicles.

As Don Corleone said "its just business".
