My wife and I bought our 05 Liberty Rocky Mountain Edition just over (1) year ago and haven't had any problems with it at all. We really wanted a CRD in the worst way, but decided the $5,000 Premium just wasn't worth it at the time.

Now, my local dealer has a used 05 CRD sitting on their lot. It has 32k miles on it and they are asking $21,498 for it.

Our Renegade Edition has just over 10k miles on it and owe around $20k.

That is a hard one to decide for someone...I traded in my 2002KJ but that is a different situation since it was older.

I will say that I like my CRD better than my 3.7L for more than a few reasons. Mileage these days is at a premium and I think it will be even more important in the very near future. I have consistently met the estimated City MPG Estimate and surpassed the Highway MPG Estimate. Driveability is better IMHO. The torque makes in city driving a pleasure in the CRD. Safety has been definitely upgraded with the Mercedes Influence (and the moustache). The ESP/Traction Control/Roll Over Mitigation/ABS Improvements have created a much better SUV in emergency situations ( maybe your 2005 already has that ). Alternative Fuel possibilities also factored into my decision with world politics as they are (not saying the "sky is falling" ) today. Bigger Fuel Tank of 20.5 gallons verses the 18.5 gallons of my 2002 3.7L. Sounds trivial but with the bigger fuel tank and better mileage, I can travel a long way before I need to fill up.

If noise is a concern, the CRD does make a little racket compared to the 3.7L. Even with the Common Rail and Extra Sound Deadening materials added, the noise of the CRD does factor in. With the Radio playing, I don't really notice this at all. Otherwise, everything is better as far as i am concerned with the CRD. Plus the CRDiesel Decal looks great...

I'm trying to determine if the cost difference is worth it. I don't know what my 05 is worth (yet) on Trade-In Value or possibly Private Sale. ???

Noise isn't a problem! Maybe for my wife though..... MY commuter vehicle is a 98 Dodge Ram 2500 w/Cummins Turbo Diesel with an OPEN exhaust! 8)

You can still buy a new '06 Sport CRD for the price of that almost out of warranty '05 CRD. I wouldn't do it for that one. Plus, they will kill you on trade in to the tune of 35 to 45% so you will have to try and sell it yourself. The only half way reasonable option for an in-between selling of your '05 is to take it to CarMAX, they will buy yours for the kbb.com trade in value, maybe a little more, just make sure it's clean, clean, clean!

Local dealer has a black base Sport for $21,230 after $2000 rebate but that promotion may end at midnight tonight!

I don't know what is happening to CRD prices since they are starting to get "rare", but the price you listed seems high. I bought my '05 sport new for about the same money in 4/05. Mine has a sunroof and some other options, but is a sport model so wlll always be cheaper than limited so if the one you are looking at is a limited it might have had a sticker of about 28-30k. Mine was stickered at just about 25k.

Hmm.... Trade-In Value on my Rocky Mtn is between $17,440-$17,900.

Private Sale is about $1,500 higher around $19,xxx.

Still going to be $4-5k difference to get this CRD or even a new one.

That's about the same difference when we were looking at new ones a year ago.
