OK this is the second time I haev had the dash freek out on me. Was driving back to the start line of the drag strip to get some oil dry and the dash lights came on for about 10 secs and then went back to normal. The only thing I can think of is that the rear class was open. Any one else?

Every once in a while, while my driving lights are on and the dash lights are set to a dim setting-- the dash lights will flash bright as can be for a half second and then go back to their regularly scheduled programming. It has happened 5 times or so in 8 months. I cannot descern any sort of pattern with it. It must be a short, loose connection or weak resistor in the dimmer switch of some sort. I am hoping this will not leave me without lights if it blows a circuit. This is warranty work and when I take mine in for the next recall (ball joint, transmisison, EGR, whatever else some bean counter said they saved money on) I will mention it. Because it is intermittent, I doubt they will give a toot.

Oh, by the way.. if the rear glass was open the odometer would say gate (if the bottom hatch is open) or glass (if just the top) and the jeep would make a loud chiming noise (like the noise to the fasten seat belt sign when your getting ready to land). The dash lights don't freak out, so this is something else.

My 06 has the same intermittent problem. Every now and then the dash lights will brighten for maybe 1-2 seconds and then go back to normal. When I go in for ball joints I was going to mention it and see what happens.

Mine used to do that on my 1976 Plymouth Fury. Have not seen it happen on a Dodge, Chrysler or Plymouth product since then and had not occurred on my CRD.
At least not yet, so maybe the gremlin is lurking in the dash still.

I dont know what to say, but after I read this thread for the first time earlier today, the same thing happened to me as well!!! While I was driving the low fuel light came on along with the chime. A split second after that the entire instrument panel went pitch dark black and then everything illuminated, as if you would turn on the ignition. That scared the doo doo out of me.

Well anyway, I think its weird that it happened a couple of hours after I heard about this for the first time.

I have the same thing. Keeps me awake while driving at night. Maybe it's the jeep talking to me?

My 2004 used to do this... I only saw it about twice though. Maybe it's just a Liberty thing.

Exactly EVERYTHING came on. Yeah the glass thing I know about. When working at the drag strip/slalom races I alwasy ride with the rear glass open and the tow rope hanging inside. Nothing really happens that I can tell except that I look down and every dash light is on.

Everyone with the problem have a "tow package"?

Had the same problem, hood switch was the cause. It would lift under power and drop back when I stopped put a bit of gum on top of the contact switch to make it depress further and the problem went away... Have since recovered the gum and adjusted the switch a little!
