I got 7yr/100K b2b when I purchased the Jeep for @ $1100. I guess this is like trying to buy life insurance. It's much cheaper while you're young and healthy than when you're over 45, overweight, and known to have a heart condition. At $2300, if you have an '05 with a 7/70 powertrain warranty, I would risk cashing-out a major repair. If your transmission is going to fail, it will probably be before 70K miles and you can do several EGR's for $2300. Also have a weird feeling DC will eventually end up making some warranty concessions to save face if they expect to sell any more diesel in this market.
This is the route I'm taking as I was unable to determine what warranty they were trying to sell me at the dealership. They had dropped the price all the way to $890 for me, but would not confirm if it was the 7/100 b2b or not - which told me it was not - so I walked out with no extended warranty.
I figure for $2300 I can do a good 2 EGR valves and 2 EGR air flow control valves on my own and with the 7/70 powertrain, I'm sure to get a rebuilt or new transmission in that time due to the substandard front transmission pump in the 545RFE (redesigned for MY 2007 vehicles).
