When you get to a quarter tank you better get some diesel, with in 20 miles or so or you may be walking.

What's worse is look at how the DTE (Distance To Empty) decreases by leaps and bounds once the EVIC reports that you have 100 miles until empty.
My last trip I noticed once DTE was 100 the decreases were in jumps of 2 miles for each mile driven.
I was down to 30 DTE miles and riding on fumes until I found a truck stop.

The CRD tank actually takes over 21 gallons to fill (don't ask me how I know that)! When the tone goes off at empty you have 60 to 90 miles left to drive. Yours might be different but wait until the alarm goes off, pull into a station and top it off. Bet it won't take much over 17 gallons.

Thats right Cowcatcher. Whenever my light comes on, which is in between empty and 1/4 I have at least 2 gallons left.

My gauge works like this:

after 150 miles its on 3/4, after 250 miles on 1/2, after 330-350 miles on 1/4. After 380 miles I dont think it can drop anymore. By the time I hit 380 miles my low fuel light usually comes on and I have about 2 gallons left.

Sounds right on to me.

My tank 1/4 marks also appear to be non-linear. However, I get about 150 miles each of the first two 1/4s, if I stay off the throttle.

But my comment was directed at the guys getting the low fuel tone above the E mark. My needle is nearly straight up on the E line before I get the tone. Of course, that puts me at about an 18 gallon fill, as others have said. Must be a difference in the instrument cluster pcu.

I have never dragged any of my cars but I have read a performance magazine or two and I think I understand the milestones that come in drag racing. That said, I'd be darn surprised to see a mostly stock CRD do a 10 second.....
DISREGARD!!!! My apologies! I read that as a 1/4 mile pass in 10 seconds. Your humble servant awaits his tongue lashing....[/b]

1/4 in 10s would be nice :-)

It takes me 10.966s to do 1/8 of a mile, which is by the way exactly the same time as a 2WD 4 door 2005 dodge 1500 HEMI.

The tone/light comes on in mine when the computer thinks it has 20 miles left until empty. The last fillup occurred not more than two miles after the light came on, and the Liberty chugged down 19.7 gallons.

This was the first fillup after the dealer did the flash for the transmission shudder. Prior to that the Jeep typically sucked down about 18 1/2 gallons when the light came on. Or it could just be coincidence.

Low fuel light on @ 380 miles? Seems a little short on miles. My light only came on twice, IIRC was in the 470+ miles range. Think I put in @ 18-18.5 gal both times. Not uncommon to see the 1/2 tank mark at @ 300 miles.

That sounds like our CRD, the light means slow down and find fuel. Ours has generaly does about 400 or tad more before the light comes on here in town.

I will say this. I have owned alot of Jeeps over the years. And when it comes to FUEL WARNINGS. Jeeps that I have owned have always been rather conservative when it comes to when the light comes on. Also EVERY Jeep I have ever owned would take several gallons more than the advertized tank size.

I have always figured that this is due to how many use there JEEPS.. Out in the WOODS etc. Giving you time to get FUEL.. So not stranded out in WOODS with NO FUEL.

I know, I probably drive 50% Highway at 60 mph and 50% in town, which is mostly highway with a couple of traffic lights and I only get around 20mpg. THIS SUCKS. From day 1 I've been getting the exact same mileage. On a recent trip to the beach which was 500 miles, I tried to drive as economic as possible and only got 23.3mpg, I was so pissed!!!!

my light comes one when the EVIC says I have 16 (usually around 380-400miles on a tank) miles left on the tank. I've driven probably 50 miles with the light on and usually put in about 17.5-18 gallons of fuel.

now on my Fords, that typically meant I had about 2.5 gallons of fuel left and I could estimate based on that.
