| Post subject: | 3000 mile Trip Report |
Hay all, I just got done driving from Washington state to Rhode Island. After 3000 miles, I thought i'd share some milage info with you all. First off I was towing a 6x10 trailer. Approx weight of trailer and stuff was 1600lbs. Secondly I had 3300 miles on the clock when I started. Total fuel used was 201 gallons for the trip, average milage was 15.082 mpg. I stayed at or just under the speed limit for the trip. While towing I observed the following: 2100 rpm = 75 mph 2000 rpm = 71 mph 1900 rpm = 68 mph 1840 rpm = 65 mph (Approx rpm) With overdrive kicked in, cruise on, flat terrain my best milage was 1900 rpm around 19.75 mpg. I filled with biodiesel twice, once with 5 gallons of B5 (I was almost full) and 13.5 gallons of B10. When filled with biodiesel my evic went up approx 3 mpg. When #2 was put in in dropped back down 3mpg on the display. My best milage occured at 1900 rpm while drafting behind a Semi about 5 car lengths which was 20.51 mpg. Heres the weird part: After towing all that way I had no problems with the Jeep. Once I unhooked the trailer, the next morning I heard moaning noise coming from the back of the Jeep. Does not do it in reverse just forward. Does it with or without me hitting the brakes also. After 15 minutes or so the noises will go away. I hope I didnt break nothing as I have to drive home in a month back to Washington. Another thing: I did receive the recall for the LBJ. Not sure if I should take it in because I dont want them to mess with the computer as I also have a recall on that too! The Jeep runs great and I dont want them to screw it up but if its a mandatory recall I dont want them to just do it because the Jeep is at the dealer already. Any thoughts? Anyone else seeing the same milage I am? |

I'd guess your rear end groan is a brake problem. There's a series of posts on it here and a service bulliten issued on how to deal with the problem. Mine does it too. As soon as I'm back to the city again, I'll bring it in. |

Have 22,000 on my '05 and I get just about the same as you. Worst I've gotten pulling my 2000 lb boat is a little over 16 mpg. The frontal area of a no windshield/top boat is a little different than a trailer so that may make a difference. |
