Besides getting a set of mopar skid plates for $265

Is there any aftermarket skid plates that I could get for around $300? looking for at least as complete protection as the mopar ones.

and if that isn't possible, which skid plate do you guys think should absolutely be aftermarket? and by who?

completely open to all your opinions or either woe or wow on different ones.

Thanks guys!

I have the ALLJ's Tranny skid...brand new with hardware and instructions for the CRD's and I also have a used Transfercase Skid (Mopar) that should work...$240.00 plus shipping for the both.

I purchased both a transmission skid plate and a transfer case skid plate (both Mopar) from http://www.jparts.com/ a while back. Just went to look and they are still around $40 a piece with free shipping. That's pretty cheap. I was pleased with how quickly the stuff came when I ordered from them.

If you are looking for a fuel tank skid plate, they are a bit more as I remember....like in the $90 range. The other two are more critical in my opinion. The CRD comes from the factory with an Engine skid plate. The only reason that you would want to replace it is if you wanted a really thick heavy duty one to replace the original.

Well, whose damaged the stock skid plates? trying to figure out it its worth paying 250 for a transmission skid, then still having to buy the others.

I've noticed people always saying that "if i had the stock skids, they would have been ripped off" but i haven't seen anybody say "I have the stock skids, and they were damaged to such a point that _____ was also damaged."

thanks for the input by the way!

If you have the OEM engine skid already...the one skid that is almost mandatory would be the Tranny Skid...the tranny pan is at risk everytime you wheel

I don't have the super skid (yet). I have a bad back and even with the thin MOPAR gas tank skid, I had to use my floor jack to lift it and hold it in place while I put the bolts in. Same could be done with the super skid.

Basically, the MOPAR tranny skid is good until you put a significant portion of the vehicles weight on it. Is it 25%, 50%, 75% vehicle weight ??? I don't know. Failure is also faster with an impact load (ie, Jeep slamming down on the skid.)

I got the tranny skid at the dealer-$ 49 (no shipping). Once I figured out how to install the rear bolts (with help from people here) the whole thing took about 20 mins to install with the jeep on the ground. It is not the "best" protection, but it is a heavy gauge metal plate which also protects the oil filter and for the price was fine for my purposes as I do not "rock climb".
