Filter Head Leak

I have the dreaded filter heater leak. I called chrysler and lo and behold the added care plus warranty does not cover that part. So, I need a replacement. What do I order to fix my jeep so I dont' have to prime it everytime I have to drive it? Thank you in advance, I appreciate your help.

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the complete fuel filter housing/filter assembly.

MODELS:

2005 - 2007 (KJ) Cherokee (International Market)

2005-2006 (KJ) Liberty

2005 - 2007 (RG) Chrysler Voyager (International Markets)

NOTE :This information applies to models equipped with a 2.8L VM turbo diesel engine (Sales codes ENR) built before October 19, 2007 (MDH 1019XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The customers may experience a no start, hard start or rough idle. These symptoms can be caused by too much air in the fuel lines. This new filter/housing assembly reduces the amount of air in the fuel line.

You still have to pay. It's not a recall. It's just a way to advise the service tech.

Got it, I did some research it looks like these are the parts I need If I want to do this myself. I tried to look them up at mopar parts america and I had no luck. Anybody know where the best place is to get them.

Moparpartsamerica does have them. I just had the same question. Look in the part nember search menu on the bottom left of the jeep liberty page. Put the number there and it works. I was trying the search bar on the upper right and it wasn't.

Ummm. I didn't order yet so I can't say yes. Another member told me. As to the difference, I'm guessing one comes with the fiter and the other doesn't. I suspect that chrysler wanted all of us to take our cars to the dealer for a filter change so they could secretly change the whole head. Both time I tried to buy a $30 filter from them they tried to charge me $116.

I could be way wrong though.

The new one comes with a filter and it's cheaper - I suspect the second number will be superseded by the 1st when you try to order
(although there's not a number listed on the $113.62 unit - that should clarify it)

I have replaced mine 3 times and every time the dealer gave me a new one but said that I had to do the exchange myself. Just bring the old one back to the parts counter. The last one with the updated pigtail seemed to fix all the problems with air leakage and the fuel heater connection burning.

Seems like a similar problem like im having on mine, except mine will die while im in the middle of driving it too sometimes. i posted another topic labeled no power, it was going into limp mode at first, then it started stalling while driving and i have to prime it everytime now to get it started again.

Other option is go with Racor, not as easy, but better filter element (if you go with the 2 Micron) and cheaper. Air in the heater chamber from Vacuum Leaks is what cooks the heater. Lift pump will help eliminate vacuum leaks and reduce the chance of frying the heater.
To be honest about the heater, for most of the US with the exception of areas where it gets colder than -10F the heater is useless. Unplug the relay in the power distribution center next the the battery, store it in the console or glove box incase you ever have a relay go bad, and only use the heater when you plan on going where it is colder than -10F. Last winter I went with out the fuel heater and did not block off my twice as big as I need fuel cooler with no ill effects driving at -15F.
Even GDE has documented running with out a heater and has reported no ill effects. Refer to them for their results.
If I agree with GDE on the fuel heater being useless for most of the US, there has to be some merit to the conclusion.

I ended up ordering the OEM replacement. I would rather not fiddle too much with doing the Racor replacement. If the OEM lasted 80,000 miles and I can get another 80 out of the replacement that should be good enough for me.
