Post subject: | Prices for ASFIR Aluminum Skids and Steprails |
I will be cleaning up this thread a little to get a real idea of how many might be interested...so don't get mad ![]() Have been in contact with a company in Israel about some aluminum skids for the CRD. **Most will probably fit the 3.7L also...not sure about the tranny/transfercase skid...all one piece** It will consist of an engine skid (might be two piece to cover up a little more of the front, a tranny/transfercase skid and a fuel tank skid. They are 6mm thick which I believe is just a tad over 1/4 inch and attach with rubber isolators as far as I can tell. They want me do mount them up with pics, do a write up and any modifications needed for the 2.8L. After they are fit and tested, the importer has agreed to do a L.O.S.T. Members Discount for the first batch ordered. I have no idea of pricing yet. I should be getting them by Wednesday of next week and have them mounted by the weekend ( I hope ). I decided to go the aluminum route to save weight (possibly preserve mpg ![]() Pics and writeup to come. Fuel ![]() Engine ![]() Tranny and Transfercase ![]() ***Don't get too excited until we see if they fit properly*** UPDATE... I thought so too at first...but...laser cut and computerzied bending machine aluminum is very clean and light. Then I took a closer look at the prices. ************************************************** The ASFIR Tranny/Transfercase Skid is ~$383.00 (Includes guesstimate shipping) To get the same coverage you need (Includes guesstimate shipping): AllJProducts Super Skid which is ~$288.00 And a Rusty's Transfercase Skid is ~$118,00 Together they total ~$406.00 ************************************************************* The ASFIR Fuel Skid is (incl ship) ~$388.00 The Kilby Fuel Skid is (incl ship) ~$237.00 ************************************************************* As for the Engine skid, I don't think anyone makes one except Mopar. ************************************************************* I just like the fact that there is another option to pick from. I wanted undercarrage protection at a lighter weight. I wanted protection that would have most offroad trails (not rockkrawling), camping and highway hazzards. |

So will these only fit the CRDs or will they fit 04 gas also. Sounds like a great deal to me! |

They should bolt up to a gasser also. The only thing is that the Tranny Skid hole for access might not match up. The fuel skid, I am not quite sure about but it probably will fit. The skid is for the 20.5 gallon fuel tank and I am not 100% sure that the shape of the 18.5 is exactly the same. If it was the other way around I would say NO...but since it is designed for the bigger of the two it will probably fit. It is shaped bigger on one end than the other. Basically it is the shape of an Isosceles Trapezoid...four sided where the two non parallel sides are the same length and the two parallel sides are two different lengths. Forgot the shape of the 18.5 gallon tank. |

There is no diamond plate trailer...but I wouldn't turn one down... ![]() You do not have to buy them all at once. You can have the discount on any one, tow, three...ect piece. Just make sure you memtion that you are a member of L.O.S.T. and are getting the 20% discount...Chuck will be your contact... Heck, buying one to see how you like them might be a smart move if you are not sure... |

$1000 for a basic set compared to what 100-150 for a set off a wrecked liberty. I don't think I'll be buying any. |

To each thier own...this is a post letting members of L.O.S.T. know that there are some other options. Stongest Engine skid...probably OEM Mopar Lightest Engine Skid...ASFIR Strongest Tranny Skid...ALLJs Super Skid hands down ***I have used the Skid Row and Rusty's so I know TransferCase Skid...I have used Rusty's and it worked ok...bent but just used spacers to get clearance back ASFIR Tranny and TC Skid...one piece and light Mopar OEM Fuel Skid...bends but works fine KILBY Fuel Skid...built like a tank ASFIR...Light and probably works at least as well as OEM Still others will buy USED/JUNKYARD/HOMEMADE...not a bad thing at all! All the above are choices availabe then you gotta look at how hard you plan on wheelin, if you want to add much weight or want to keep it light, ect. |

Besides the above issues that Darby Walters mentioned think long term, the rest will rust and look like cr** after a couple of years, the ASFIR will look great in 10 to 15 years when we are still wheeling them!(HOPEFULLY) ![]() Thats why the ASFIR line of products looks so great! You can buy cheap or you can buy a quality item but you never an item that is built good and also for a cheap price. I thank Darby for bringing this line to our attention! |

That armor is schweet. I just wish I had my tranny skid fitted last weekend when I went wheeling, would've made me feel better. Right now it's at a mates who's gonna help me fit it. We had some problems with the nutzerts/rivets for installing it. Now we got the knowledge but lack the time ![]() |
