Is the ride quality that bad with the daystar lift? I'm considering a lift after warranty expires but I don't want it to ride like a real Jeep!! It just seems like there is so many problems with lifted liberty's. I change my mind on it every other week |

Put the stock rear shocks back on first, I first lifted mine with stock rear shocks and it rode awesome. I later put some other shocks on it and the valving was way too stiff. the Daystar lift by itself won't negatively affect ride quality. |

I drove mine for a few months with the 255/70R16 Revos on before I put on my lift with no troubles. It's fine for every day driving, but you will get major rubbing on the driver side rear wheel well where the bump is for the fuel filler neck if you flex the rear to it's max. Also, minor, very minor, rubbing on pinch weld plastic if turning and braking just right. I really liked it that way before the lift. Give it a try... |

What tire pressure are you running in the rear? The Daystar lift pucs in the rear would not really make the ride that harsh...either the tire pressure is too high or the shocks are "too stiff". You might think of replacing the rear puc with a full length spring first. Would be much cheaper that the other route. |

Try some new rear shocks like OME or the new 9-way adjustable rancho 9000's if conform is your main concern. A daystar lift in the rear sound not really effect ride quality. I believe there has been a other complaints on this board with the BDS rear shock and ride quality before. Also try the stock rear shock and see if that makes a difference. OME also makes some light-medium duty rear springs that might work for you. Combined with their shock, the ride is actually better than stock. |

What is it exactly that the wife & kids hate ? There are a few different ways you can make the KJ's rear ride better or worse. The main thing that people complain about with Jeeps is the typical "bum wiggle" they get over uneven road. It WJ, WG were a doo doo to ride in imo. The last of the o4-05 WG H.O Overlands has most of it sussed, but only just. The trick to fixing the bum wiggle is to lower the vehicle. The culprit at play is the A Frame rear Upper Arm or Boomerang as some people refer to it as. When you lift the KJ or Grands, the rear upper A Arm goes right out of wack. It was designed primarily to run parallel to the ground/road, but when its just under ie: lowerd say 1/2 to 1", it ride like a sports sedan, honestly. I've toyed around with them quite a bit back in my Fulcrum Suspension days. King Springs (manufacturers of OME coils) & I came up with a lowered part no# (just for the Grand) and it worked really well. The transformation was quite noticable. Not sure about the KJ though, never stayed around long enough to test that one out - not that it was bad or anything though! I hop in my Dad's 02 WG V8 Laredo every now & then & think " Oh my God, what a chuck bucket this thing is to drive/ride in!!" Just take your wife & kids for a ride in one and you & the KJ will look like hero's  !!
(PS, for all you CRD peeps out there, I am working with Kings/ARB on a front coil for the KJ that actually holds the weight up of an ARB Bull Bar, Spotties & Winch, and when I say hold up I mean to around 3.5" of lift with 0 sag) |

The KJ CRD rides WAY, WAY better than a ZJ Laredo 4.0 liter. Talk about "head toss" over rough surfaces in that thing! |

He hit this problem right on the head. First of all, your tires are the Silent Armor tires. Those are kevlar lined, and have DuraWall sidewalls like the MT tires. That makes them very stiff! They will ride rough on the road. If you want a smooth ride, that's your first problem area. Second, the BDS shocks are too stiff. Most of these shocks (BDS, Rancho, etc.) are actually tuned for pickup trucks. So they are too stiff for a Liberty. The lift kit itself will NOT make the ride stiffer. With stock tires and stock shocks, my Daystar lift made the ride SOFTER because the rear suspension was no longer hitting the bumpstops all the time on the highway. It's simply your shocks and tires that make a rougher ride. Your wife and kids probably psychologically believe the lift kit is the problem because they didn't notice the rough ride until after you put it on. But they just don't understand how suspension works. The truth is, the lift kit is good for the Jeep's ride quality. It's your shocks and tires that you need to fix. |
