ell my '06 CRD has almost 5K miles on it and I just had my first problem. Some fool decides to cut me off and I slam my brake. When I hit the accelerator to get started again, No power -- rough idle and major shuddering. I could slam the gas and it would go nowhere with the RPM's going nowhere. Turned it off and it would not restart, no code or stupid light, after a minute it started and ran like nothing was wrong.

So reading some previous posts it seems I am just one of many this has happened too.

So for those who have dealt with this -- what was your resolution.

PSSS -- I also have had my MPG dropping little by little -- Im now at about 18mpg for mixed/very relaxed driving from the original 22mpg. Ideas?

I also have the "water" stains on my seats ...

I actually called Jeep and their is a TSB for it. Guy told me to take it to the dealership and gave me a ref number to have them replaced.

I hope someone has an answer to this. My CRD mileage is dropping month by month. The daily commute is 90% highway and the CRD gets the same crappy 20.5 to 21.5 mpg no matter how it is driven -- nascar or granny-like. The best it did for the daily drive was 22.6 mpg done a month or so after purchase. On the fillup today I calculated 19.8 mpg. I've turned coasting on the highway off ramps and residential streets near my house into an art form with no discernable effect.

I suspect the CRD doesn't actually burn fuel. It seems to achieve forward thrust by spewing high pressure fuel out the back.

Addition:

I've heard from several people on a Jeep Liberty diesel mailing list that hand calculating mileage and the computer are ordinarily very close together. My computer does seem to reflect the mileage expected from driving style. When driven hard the computer reports 19-20 mpg and when driven with some consideration the computer reports 24-25mpg which matches what other people report for actual mileage. However, hand calculating at fillup turns in a range around 20 regardless of driving style. It has the appearance of the computer measuring all the variables correctly, but something occurs at a later stage that the computer doesn't know about. I can't see how it could be a fuel leak -- the computer would pick that up. (And there's no stains on the ground where I park it at home.)

Probably your Electronic Stability Control took some action when the brake was slammed on hard - did it's own thing - maybe reduced engine power or cut it totally. When you shut it off (right away?) it probably had a brain fart and took a certain amount of time to reset itself. Does your '06 have the little button to press down on top the the steering wheel column to turn off the ESC???

The loss in fuel economy can be due to the following:

1. Winter diesel fuel is blended with kerosone...less BTU/energy per gallon. I lose 2-3 mpg with winter fuel with my other diesel vehicle.
2. ULSD. Folks using ULSD have reported loss of fuel economy over LSD
3. Winter ULSD....

My fuel economy was kinda all over the place until about 10K. You don't have many miles yet.

If your supplier is blending with Kerosene, I would take him out behind the building for a discussion. D2 is winter blended with D1 which is NOT kerosene. I tanked fuel for a lot of years in Alaska and down here and I do know the difference. Kerosene will burn but it is not the industry standard for winter mix. Save it for the airline industry to use.

I live in Miami and we dont have a winter blend and ULSD is not avail anywhere yet ...
