In looking at the various lift kits for the CRD most suggest using stock springs & a combination of new spacers and bump stops. Wouldn't it be better to use AL's A-ARMS and a custom set of front springs of the proper weight rating and OAL ( over all length ) to achieve the desired lift and ride? |

Yes I would think so. I am waiting for a new spring application, or for somebody to do this and report back-- I don't want to be a test monkey. Custom springs are alot of $$, and if they don't work, you get to keep buying more. |

AllJs is working on some stuff with OME...that only they will have. I hope that it will also include the CRD. Honestly, since we know the springs are rated at 410#s stock...It would be very easy for a spring company to make some new front springs based on stock spring rounds and length...and turn new springs that would be rated a bit higher and 2" longer... |

Does anyone know the length (unloaded), wire diameter, and ID/OD. If we keep the same spring rate and increase the length by 2-4 inches will that provide and easy lift. Lot's more suspension travel for sure. My guess is that armed with that info, there will be a bunch of stock coils out there that will fit quite nicely. There may be some minor mods necessary depending on how the wire ends and handled but that's not a bit deal. |

The KJ's IFS works on a ratio of approx 2:1 . ie: if you change the height of the coil by 1" it wont nessessary lift the car 1", it'l lift it by 2", but funnily enough, that doesnt happen in practise, it would most likely lift the car 1.5" ....... litton wrote: Lot's more suspension travel for sure. Really....... :roll: Oh and another thing, you'd want to make sure you called up DC and asked them to give you a list of ALL THE PART NO#s OF ALL THE SPRINGS THEY EVER MADE FOR THE KJ's, including the 2WD Variants, that way you will have ALL THE INFORMATION nessessary to start doing your calculations. |

to respond to the original thread... of course it would make the most sense to have a full length spring lift for the front of a CRD. unfortunately no one is making one as of yet. the heavy duty OME spring is adequate as far as spring rate goes (with the stock bumper) - but it will not produce any lift with a heavy bumper and winch combo. and the lift it produces without any type of extra spacers (either under the spring or on top of the strut assembly) - is not huge (maybe 1.5" or less?). none of this should be very complicated as the rear spring lift is simple without spacers - just using OME full length springs(or other springs on the market). at this point the only option for the front end if you dont want to use spacers of some type (which in all honesty is not a good way to produce lift) is to have custom springs made (which is possible - as there are plenty of companies out there that wind custom coils) - but it's not as easy as buying a "kit" - so it appears no one has done it yet? it would be nice if OME made a full length spring with the proper spring rate to handle a bumper and winch (or even without) - but they are in the business to make money on a mass scale selling premade kits and springs - so if they dont see a market for this item - it's not going to happen. considering the CRD was only a two year production run in the U.S.A. (one of the largest, if not the largest car markets in the world) - a company like ARB/OME may not be willing to put the R&D into another spring (considering they already make three front springs for the liberty as it stands). there was a recent thread from someone in australia who said he was working directly with ARB to have a proper spring made - and if he's successful - i'm sure it will end up on this forum. i've got the heavy duty OME springs in the front right now (RRO rock father II kit) - with a 3/8" spacer plate on top of the strut assemble. it produced 2" of lift. i've only put 400 miles on the springs thus far - so i have no idea if they will sag - and if so - how much. i'm running the stock bumper. for now - unless someone does something custom - the only thing out there are factory springs with spacers or OME springs with spacers. all it will take is money and time - and i'm sure this will all get sorted out. it's not rocket science. just a spring!! depending on what i see happening to my front OME springs - i will either pursue having some custom springs wound - or i'll wait and see if ARB/OME comes through with a taller/stiffer spring for the CRD. good luck!! |
