Lifted CRD questions

well if they manage to fix my little bugger I am going to make it happy and put a lift on it

here are some questions I am not readily finding answers to:

How much power loss and with what size tires are you experiencing ?
What is your cruising RPM at highway speeds are you happy with this ?
How much of a smack to your MPG did you get?

I am thinking of running a 2.5 lift from whoever and 265/75/16 Truxus on stock rims and hack away whatever plastic is in the way. Mind you this will be a 90% mall poser :lol:

I have another vehicle for actually off-roading

It will still serve commuter and tow duties (hence the truxus for the weight rating)

From my experience...you will pobably lose 2 mpg for the lift (increasing airflow under the vehicle) and 1 mpg from the tires. Been trying to get it back ever since...

On the hwy I cruise at 70mph which is actually 76mph taking into consideration the tire size differential. This puts me at about 2050 to 2100 rpm. You could probably do much better gas wise dropping about 5mph.

There was a little loss in acceleration but I just pressed down harder. The service tech however said it lacked power compared to the "other" (stock) CRD's. This was solved with the SP chip

and gave me about 1mpg better mileage also.

In my opinion, nothing beats the look of a Liberty on TrXus' though. I get constant stares at every light...

I had 245/70's before and now with the lift I am still running them, I have not noticed a drop in mileage at all. still pull 23.5mpg with all freeway driving.

Usmcdoc, Here's the real skinny. Desiel vehicles do not suffer the drastic losses in fuel economy that gassers do because of the low end torque. Esspecial the size of lift you are talking about. Another myth that we can dispell is it will not throw off your speedo. Years ago this used to be the case but with the intruduction of computers in cars the CPU's can now accomidate and make the speedo corrections upto two tire sizes. My CRD has a 2 1/2" lift with Goodyear MTR's and I average around 25 MPG. The highest I've seen is 32 MPG and lowest was 20 MPG. In short, lift away and remember, the Liberty is no poser. How does the computer do this? And which computer does it? The computer is only told how many revolutions are made by the magnetic sensor in the rear diff. This is compared to a preset number from the factory about how many revolutions constitute a mile. I thought that this was the whole reason people get their speedo's recalibrated... Also, 265/75's are more than two sizes larger than stock. My GPS tells me Im off by 9% when doing 60mph and anytime you raise the profile of a vehicle 3.5 to 4 in. there will have to be some consequence.

All I know is signcutter1 and I went to a lift party in Ca. We left from Phoenix and got 27mpg...this was with 1000 mi. on the vehicle. On the way back after the lift, I got 24 and have not seen 27 since, even with two trips back to CA for several trailrides. Maybe I have a dog compared to others...I dont know. But my pocket and my GPS tells me otherwise.

I wish I saw 32mpg...

If you have a "good dealership", they can reset your speedo if you can tell them the revolutions for 60 mph with your new tires.

They are a great wearing sorta mud terrain pattern tire with good siping for snow/wet that have a "D" load rating. They are not as agressive as you may think and are quieter than a lot of "all terrain" tires

I would hardly call them "off road oriented" under the size of 35" :lol:

I am contemplating running them in either 235/85 16 or 265/75 16 leaning more to the first size

some are more "orientated" than others. some just look better at the mall than others also :lol:

Example would be the goodyear MTR: thin sidewall, don't self clean well, don't grab worth a damm on wet slimy rock. They also suck for daily driver duty as they have weird acoustics, wear like crap and are borderline dangerous on wet roads.

I am not running Truxus's on my off road rig, even though in the larger sizes seem to work well in this east cost crud. But I would NOT put IROK's or Boggers on my daily driver

I'm with AZScout - lift and MTR's cost about 3 mpg - although as near as I can tell from mileage markers and the radar signs that tell you your speed -the speedo is more accurate now than with the stock tires.

The Truxus sounds interesting - I'm not impressed with MTR's on the street

Here is a photo right after the Daystar lift and TrXus' were put on.

I meant no disrespect from my earlier comments. I wish I had 32mpg. My best was 27.4 doing 65mph and I've been on a quest to get it back ever since with the different mods out there. The Gasser airbox mod...I'm still sceptical on. I don't see where there is room for a ram-air effect and the Aero Turbine muffler didn't change anything either. The only thing that really changed anything was the SP diesel which gave me about 1mpg. Then again, I usually travel at 70 on my speedo. I will try...real hard...to go on my next trip to Las Cruces at 65 to see what the effects are. I'll keep those interested posted with the results. I did the same trip last week but there was a 25mph headwind both going to and from there so the results, 21.7mpg at 75mph, were kind of skewed.

I hope we can all get 30mpg!
