I just got back from ~1,000 mile round trip to San Diego and naturally I push hard through the desert of AZ.....Cruise set at 86 for about 250 miles or so each way. We have made this trip 3 time in the 2 months we've had the CRD and just turned 5,000 miles.

There has been a sight "shudder" at speed for the last 2-3,000 miles that feels like either steering or driveline.

This morning, I was loading the car and noticed a "wet" streak just inside the left front wheel well like you might get driving through water.....except this is not water. Closer inspection shows a light amber fluid that appears to be comming from inside the little cap in the center of the wheel. The fluid has run down the wheel and tire. Not a lot of it, but certainly not something normal.

I tried to take a pic but my camera battery was dead. Once it gets recahrged, I'll try again.

First guess is a front seal has gone bad but the color doens't look like any diff fluid I've ever seen. Brake fluid is fine.

Any thoughts.

Sounds like brake fluid to me, keep an eye on your levels.

Sounds more like you may have driven through a puddle of oil. High speed rotation of the tire slung it into the fender well where it dripped into the wheel when parked. If you think it's coming from your vehicle, check the front differential for a possible seal leak (2 output shafts, 1 input shaft).

litton, you say the source is from the inside of the ctr wheel cap ? Sounds just like some rust water that might have been in there since you got the car, and the long road trip just started to send the fluid out.

wipe a bit on your finger & check, if its got no real smell, or isnt sticky or sweet, I wouldnt worry about it.

Also, why dont you pop off the rim & have a look behind there ?

It's definitly coming from the center cap, it's a light amber in color, and is very slippery...like light oil. I wonder if it could be some light fraction of the wheel bearing grease. There has also been a low speed growl coming from the left front wheel when hot. but that sounded like a brake issue as it would go away when the bakes were applied.

I'll take in to the dealer next week and see what they say......."Unable to Replicate?".
