O.K.

Let me just start out and say I love my CRD, it is my 2nd liberty. However I have had alot of problems with it since I purchased it back in March.

I currently have just under 6k on the vehicle. To date I have had it in the shop at least a half dozen times, being with out it for over 35 days total. My glow plugs have gone out. My right front speaker/tweader in the dash has had to be replaced twice. It over heats every time I drive it up the canyon at normal highway speeds. It has completely stalled or broke down twice on me as I have been driving it down the road. It will just stop running and then wont start back up again. Other times when I go to start it, after waiting to start it of course, it will start then immediatley die only to start up again on the second try. As I drive it down the road the throttle or "gas" will serge or pulsate?? My average MPG in town is 17-18 and highway 20-21 at best!

Other than the glow plugs and speaker DC has not been able to fix it or give me an answer on what the problem is. No check engine light is registering when it breaks down and DC said the over heating thing is just a programing issue. DC however has not done anything to fix these problems. I'm frusterated. Has anyone had similar problems or heard of anything???? I feel like I got a Lemon. Any suggestions?

You are not alone; I too have similar problems with my CRD.
All are driving related, engine cutting out, stalling for no reason crossing traffic, overheating.

The dealership I bought at has been good in they seem to have fixed the overheating with a new fan clutch. Revised ECM data has all but eliminated the stalling. On the engine cutting out, they are telling me that it is a new vehicle and when DC gets a fix they will take care of me.

Your call, deal with it or Lemon Law. Don

PS. I went to Purgatory, CO. this weekend and 2000 rpm is 70.4 mph on GPS. A/C used no downshifting and still got 25.3 mpg. On a similar trip to Silverton engineer/cinnamon pass using 4low and crawling still got 24.7 mpg. At present I am not aware of any other vehicle that has similar characteristics.

I have a 2002 2.5 CRD (same engine, just smaller cylinder bore). I have had a couple of little problems with it but no major engine issues. She starts up every morning first time whether it's hot summer or freezing winter weather. It's probably the most reliable car I've ever owned!

Try a different brand of fuel, a local truck stop that sells 60/40 blend as premium will not have the energy of straight #2 diesel
Conoco is good for 22-23 mpg. Chevron 25-26 but very loud. Sinclair is what I am using. Also Michelin casing technology is superior for rolling resistance. I am using cruise as much as prudent.

M19:

As you know, if the vehicle is not giving you reasonable service, force the dealer to take it back. You have to make that call.

I almost went that route, the morning driving after I got home it started cutting out. But the dealer was honest in saying DC has not yet come up with a fix for that. They have called to schedule repairs as they have become aware of them. The vehicle is getting better all the time, I believe due to my relationship with service department. Don

M19...yours seems to be the worst case scenario. The only problem I've had is the overheating issue. They changed my brake booster but it still didn't fix it. Supposedly DC is coming out with a software fix in about a month. I'll give them that chance and will force the issue if this doesn't fix it. The dealership has been real helpful but they are baffled and are waiting for instruction from DC. I love my diesel but I cannot take going 45mph up a mountain pass on the verge of overheating while being passed by an econobox going 80. I've heard now of at least two cases of the transmission being fried because of the high heat. Apparently the trannie and the engine share the same cooling...So, we'll see. In regards to mpg, driving it to SoCal when brand new, I got 29mpg going out there. This is downhill from AZ I guess. Coming back after a lift and rock rails and Trannie skid, I got 22. After 7000 mi. with an aftermarket trannie and gas tank skidplate, rockrails, and 265/75 16's I now get about 19 city and 23 hwy. Still better than the 3.7 but not what I was anticipating. I've noticed that TSB 08-18 makes the shifting easier but it does so by keeping the rev's a little higher resulting in a little worse mileage. I'm going to see if they can take this TSB off and change it back to stock to see if this has caused a significant mileage drop. I now get about 400 miles per tank. Longarm...335 seems a bit short unless you are driving on CO mountain grades.

Well raising the jeep effected aerodynamitcs more than a person would think, I had a 2000 Z71 that got around 20mpg before a 3" body lift and 16mpg after with the same tire it had before the lift. Another thing is the weight of the tire ,not sure whether that could be a factor for you though. On the Z71 I went for a set of Firestone Wilderness to set of Interco Super Swamper radials and the weight difference was immence even with them being the same size. So after the body lift and the heavy stupid tires my Z71 got around 10mpg :shock:.
Around drag racing circles it is said that every pound off the rotating mass(drivelne ,wheels ,tires etc) is the same as adding 4 horsepower, so I would say that it would also work the other way around too.....not sure how accurute that is but is does make sence.

This is one reason I'm not lifting my KJ at this time with a 660 mile a week commute it expensive enough with fuel prices the way the are, if the fuel prices go back down(hoping and praying :lol: ) there will be a lift in my CRDs future.

16,100 miles.
I've had the following done;
Rebuilt trans due to torque converter failure.
tsb-05-018? I think, re flash
glow plug replaced
torn a cv boot in the woods
noisy brakes, not fixed yet
50-60mph stumble, not fixed yet
now the overheating started on this last towing trip. 2500# from Atlanta to Baltimore.

I'm begining to think the oil has something to do with it. At 5 and 10k I used 5w40 Mobile 1, at 15K I went back to 0w40 and have a crap load of oil spots on my gate now.

Spoke to the dealer today....still waiting to hear back from them. I just wish they had an answer for these issues. Well it's good and bad to hear that there are a few of you that are experiencing the same problems. BTW I do have a 3'' rockfather lift and 245/75/16 as far as the mileage goes...

I had to put the ehxaust back to stock around 8k to get the trans rebuilt, egr fixed.
I was up and running untill today when I took delivery of a 2005 Quadcab 200, Cummins 6spd.
