Well, I've managed to put 5500 miles on my CRD in a bit over two months. The deale provided three years of oil changes so I'm taking it in today along with a laundry list of repair items. It'll be interesting to see what they do about them. Here is the list: 1) Front passenger window "screetch" going down. This has mostly stopped happening but I'll still bring it up. 2) Both front window bind going up. This is getting worse with the drivers side almost stopping about 1/2 way up. 3) Rear brakes sometimes "groan" when cold. This again is intermitant. 4) Left Front brake/whell grinds when hot at low speed. Noise stops when brake is applied. 5) EVIG mpg is wildly inaccurate. As much as 20% high. Avg. 8% high. Error is greatest in mixed driving and least during constant hwy trips. Detailed documentation since new provided. 6) Fuel gage reads 2 gallons high. 7) Speedometer is 3 mph high at any speed (other then stopped). 8. Driveline vibration at speed. Most noticalbe at 65 - 85. Almost feels like a loose wheel bearing/steering problem. Steering is tight...just a steady ligh shake. So far nothing big but details that should be taken car off. Has anyone else gone in with similiar grips? |

Most noticalbe at 65 - 85. Almost feels like a loose wheel bearing/steering problem. Steering is tight...just a steady ligh shake. I had the rear left door lock die 28 days after I took delivery of the new vehicle. The noise it made when locking/unlocking was horrific. 3) and 4) are probably related. I understand there is a TSB to address the brake noise. Mine did the same thing From Feb 2006 until recently (early Oct 2006.) 5) My computer always reports a minimum 2mpg higher than reality, but is most inaccurate on the highway where it has reported 8, 9, or more mpg higher than real mpg. 6) How do you figure real gallons on the gague? It's just a dial. I figured 19 years of engineering would have improved the condition of fuel gauges and we'd see real gallons reported on a digital display, but the Liberty fuel gauge behaves exactly the same as my 19 yr old Buick. On the Liberty (and the Buick), the gauge appears to be reporting the volume in a funnel, so it isn't worth spit until the tank is nearly empty. The gauge hardly moves until the Jeep has been driven 1/3 of its range on the tank. Then the gauge starts moving and falling faster and faster. The trip OD on the Liberty (reset at each fillup) just crossed 200 miles today and the fuel gauge points to 3/4 full. So, then am I getting 800 miles from a tank? Nah. (Well, if you ask the EVIC, it says the mileage I've driven, plus the distance expected from the remaining fuel means I'm getting 680 miles from a full tank.) But, experience says the low fuel light will come on when the trip OD is near 385 to 395 miles. 7) Yeah, I noticed that at a radar sign the other day. It was a 30mph zone and I had the cruise at the lowest speed possible. The spedometer reported 32. The radar sign was flashing 29 and 30 at me. At least it means I might not be getting tickets ![]() 8 ) I notice this, too. There is always a subtle vibration that I'd call "metalic". It's not like road vibration in other cars. It becomes more pronounced when in Full Time 4x4. I had figured it was just something inherent in an off-roading vehicle. |

I've got issue #1. Front passenger window "screetch" going down. Most of your other issues are going to be called "In spec." or "Cannot duplicate" |

Dropped it off this morning and the SA immediatly called the SM over and went through the list. He feels the fuel gage reading high is related to the EVIC problem. Every mark on the fuel gage should be 1 gallon....at least that is the way my GC works and it's really accurate. +/- 1/2 gallon. Total agreement that it should be within about 2% or so of actual. SM also feels that my wheel shake and the left front wheel noise may be related to a bearing problem and that the caliper may also not be releasing properly. Drive train vibration is a differant topic and he wants to do the test drive himself. Windows were a no-brainer and no discussion was necessary. The drivers window barely goes up. Rear brakes, he said there is a fix for them and don't bother trying to repilcate. He will call DC on the speedo error but not to hold my breath. I said my GC is dead on and it is probalby the same instuement so I wasn't buying into the error being OK. So far a positive experience and they may warrent inclusion on the excellant dealer list. These guys take their 5 star rating very very seriously. Beside, warrenty work is good income. Now I will wait and see what they really do. |

I've got the same issue with number 5. I've talked to my service advisor that basically told me "that's the way it's supposed to work", and I talked with a Jeep engineer at Camp Jeep this past summer who said it should be "dead on." I've had zero other problems with my CRD other than the TSB's and ball joint recall. I'll bring the EVIC inaccuracy issue up again when it goes in for new ball joints ina couple of weeks. 26,653 miles and climbing. |

Number eight is a problem I've experienced in both drive lines. I'll consider the dealer for this one but most likely will just get both shafts balanced. I hate the idea of them working on it: damaged oil seals, stripped fasteners etc. |

Update.....One on the problems we all encounter is the low number of CRD's at any given dealer so the individual knowelge base is low. However, all liberty service work goes into the central library as well as the fix....or lack thereof. The dealer is in contact with DC on some of the issues but our guess is that a lot of customers just haven't brought these up as a problem. In other words, the customer either lives with the problem, doesn't know the problem exists, or figures the dealer can't do anything about it anyway. The EVIC and fuel gage is one example. The driveline problems I figure they will find sooner or later and expect that more info will be available later today. I don't need the vehicle back as I have my GC to drive in the meantime but I will hold their feet to the fire for resolution. There is simply no excuse for modern instumentation to be inaccurate. +/- 2% error is very generous and should be less the 1%. Gotta give the dealer credit for taking me seriously and that is fairly major. |

Get ready for: "Could not duplicate, no problem found." I have complained about the same things every time I take my Jeep in and that is the only response to every one of my concerns. |

"UPDATE" My poor CRD dropped into a black hole at the dealer for several days and I couldn't get any info except "we're researching the problem". Finally left a message for the SM last night expressing discontent. This morning I got a call telling me they moved the car to a differant tech because they were not getting any satisfaction themseleves. 1) Front passenger window "screetch" going down. This has mostly stopped happening but I'll still bring it up. 2) Both front window bind going up. This is getting worse with the drivers side almost stopping about 1/2 way up. Both front windows regulators have been replaced 3) Rear brakes sometimes "groan" when cold. This again is intermitant. Rear brakes are being redone per the TSB 4) Left Front brake/whell grinds when hot at low speed. Noise stops when brake is applied. Everything looks OK, a caliper my not have been releasing but is now fine. Keep an eye on it and if it reoccurs not the conditions and bring it in at your convienance 5) EVIG mpg is wildly inaccurate. As much as 20% high. Avg. 8% high. Error is greatest in mixed driving and least during constant hwy trips. Detailed documentation since new provided. No fix available. DCX has not received any complaints so R&D has not been allocated. 6) Fuel gage reads 2 gallons high. No fix available due to lack of complaints. 7) Speedometer is 3 mph high at any speed (other then stopped). No fix available due to lack of complaints. 8 ) Driveline vibration at speed. Most noticalbe at 65 - 85. Almost feels like a loose wheel bearing/steering problem. Steering is tight...just a steady ligh shake. The tech feels it may be a tire and is getting a replacement. If that does solve the problem then it's back to square 1. So far the dealer is stepping up to the plate and taking care of business. Bit of a delay but they seem to have taken care of the problem and I should have it back tomorrow. |

litton wrote: 6) Fuel gage reads 2 gallons high. I think your fuel gauge is fine. Every vehicle I have owned has about 2.5 gallons in reserve. So when the fuel light comes on, you really have about 2 gallons left.
No fix available due to lack of complaints. 7) Speedometer is 3 mph high at any speed (other then stopped). No fix available due to lack of complaints. I also believe the 3mph high speedo is another 'safety' factor to keep speeds down on vehicles, so when you think you are doing 68mph and 'barely' speeding, you are really doing the speed limit. Just my .02 |

Just my .02 The fuel gage error is at the top. There is a 2 gal researve but that's at the bottom. Every line on the gage should be one gallon. My '05 GC has the same gage and it's dead on as is the EVIC. Same with the speedo, the GC is right on the money and once again it's the same insturment. I know they can do it and they should. There is no excuse for instruememt error. I'm guessing the fuel gage error is the cause of the EVIC error. Dealer feels that is probably true also. Even my '86 MB 560SL has an accurate fuel gage and speedo. |

Thats right, there is absolutely no excuse/reason for inaccurate gauges, we live in the 21st century. |

OK, latest update. I got the car back this morning and had a bit of surprise. DC has agreed to attempt repairs on the EVIC and fuel gage. They have ordered something called a SOP sending unit and a fuel module pakage 1406 whatever that is. Anyway, the sending unit should arrive tomorrow and the fuel module package is a special order. I have no idea what this stuff is or what it does but at least DC is acknowledging the problem. The replacement front tire took care of the vibration. They did a F31 recall Both rear rotor, pads, etc were replaced Both front window requlators were replaced Upholstry was shampooed, etc for spot removal The only outstanding item is the speedo error and they checked it against a PD radar and found only a 1 mph error. I have seen many posts about DC and warrenty repairs, but I must say that I couldn't be happier with the service. |

I couldn't imagine any dealer around here doing that. When you're done with these guys, please box them up (with plenty of air holes in the box) and ship them to Ft. Lauderdale. |
