Post subject: | Cleanliness of Innercooler |
If you remeber I bumped into a deer about 3 weeks ago and wrecked the front end, I picked up the Jeep from the body shop today and looked at the old innercooler to see what was in there if anything. I had 10,800 miles on when the vehicle became incompacitated. EHM was in place for about 2,500 miles from about 5,000 - 7,500 miles on the odomometer To my surprise I did not find any oil or residue in the cooler, it actually looked really clean. From the posts I have read here, I was expecting to find an oily sludge in there gooing everything up. After seeing this I will not be doing and EHM again on this vehicle. |

I have just over 36k on my '05. I pulled the intercooler hoses off this past weekend after changing air filter (12k change interval-filter dirty, but not beyond useful life). I found very little oil in the hoses. I was suprised due to info from this forum, so I used a clean paper towel to wipe as far as I could reach with my fingers and only got a small amount of film on the towel. I have made no mods, and do not have a pro-vent. So, I don't know how to explain it. |

My hoses are clean, but I changed to a 5-40 immediately when I purchased it, I do have the EHM, and will keep it, from my experience with a TDI that I drove 250,000. And I cool down the turbo, even though that discussion has been beat to death also, just things I do and have done and they have paid me dividends in clean intercoolers and longevity so far anyway. |
