Who do you think won? I was rearended today by a 2006 Malibu. The Malibu was NOT looking good. The hood was shoved about halfway back to the windshield. My spare tire must have taken most of the impact because, unless you look behind the spare, you can't even tell it was hit. The tailgate dented in a bit behind the spare and my hitch cover was bent. That was it. I am fine and my 4 year old was properly buckled into her booster seat and is fine too. She was pretty upset so I had the paramedics come take a look at her and they deemed her healthy at the scene. The 4 black-pants-and-ties missionary boys in the Malibu were all ok too. They were very concerned about my daughter and were very impressed by the lack of damage on the Jeep. I was very suprised the Malibu airbags didn't go off. Some applause for Allstate insurance too. They offered to replace the booster seat without me even asking. I'm a certified Child Passenger Safety technician (I teach parents and caregivers how to install car seats) so I would have asked about it anyway but I was very impressed that they offered so freely. I've had to fight with other insurance over the same issue in the past. Annie, who will probably be a bit sore tomorrow. |

Good to hear all are safe though. Not surprised that the Malibu's airbags didn't go off, it's a Chev.  .
The overall saftey of the KJ was a big foucs for my purchase, espically with a 3 year old daughter of mine own. Oh, did you have a tough time finding a LATCH compatable seat? Don't know if it's just us in Canda but a lot of retail outlets didn't carry any or were empty of the shelf. Perhaps I was the last to find out about them? |

All car seats in the US, as of 2002, have to have the LATCH attachment with the car seat. There were a few car seats that went away with that requirement because they couldn't come up with a LATCH solution. How sticky is Canada about you importing a car seat from the US? That might be an option. I really like the lower anchors in the Jeep. You can actually get to them. I had a Buick before and the attachments were waaayyy down in the seat bight and they were a pain. I'm a Britax fan. Yes, they're more expensive but I fully believe they are worth every, single penny. I've had Roundabouts, Decathlon and now Parkway boosters and I love them. New cars are designed to mush up like that. It spreads the impact over a larger time span and softens the blow. It sucks the the car is totaled but the alternative is to have your face smashed against the windshield. My neighbor smacked a red light runner last year. Full frontal impact at about 20MPH. The airbags did not fire. She was driving Toyota Camry. Walked away, no scratches. I guess the electronics decided the air bags would do more harm than good. The KJ seems to be a tough little bugger. I do hope they crumple in a big crash though. |

Just my personal attitude, but it would not have been so bad if the knuckleheads in the Malibu in the white shirts and ties did smash against the windshield. At least it would have kept them from ringing some doorbells for a while |

That's one reason I've always had Allstate, when I needed them they have always been there and bent over backwards to help. They also make sure that all repairs are done with new factory parts. Even lightly cracked windshields are complete replaced, not repaired. Great company to do business with. |
