I hope that 18.4 mpg was because of approximately 200 miles of short trips 5 miles or less.

Cause if it's going to be getting that all the time the dealer is gonna hate me.

I've had a low of 21mpg and a high of 26mpg. Average has been just under 24 with a lot of highway miles.

Sounds about right for your first 11 gallons used to putz around town, a 3.7L gasser would be doing about 14 mpg as a couple of frinds have told me. Anyway once it has got broken in (10k miles +) it will probably be in the 20 to 22 range for city driving while a 37L will be stuck in the 14 to 16 mpg range.

The Wisconsin winter temps will hurt your fuel mileage, but it will get better in the spring. That, plus your engine will have more miles on it.

I have been averaging 24mpg with mostly highway driving for the last 27,000 miles. It's not as good as I expected but it's better than a gasser. Although with diesel prices where they are at , it's costing me about the same as if I was driving a 21mpg Grand Cherokee.

Not only the winter temps, but winter Diesel has less energy content because they blend it with #1 diesel to lower the gel point. So generally your fuel economy will take a hit in the winter time. So I don't think your milage is that horrible. It is a combination of New engine, winter fuel, and city driving. Keep trucking on and you will see an improvement. I have about 4k on mine and last tank averaged 25mpg with about 60/40 hwy/city driving. Generally Diesels don't get their peak milage until the engine is broken in.

I’m hoping that my average is 24+ mpg, I do 80/20 highway/city.

And I just got thinking I was driving on the dealers dime also so maybe the tank wasn’t quite filled all the way. But I was really expecting to see 20-21 mpg.

Mine don't get good fuel mileage until it hit the 10,000 mile mark, now I get 22 average, and 31 highway, most local driving.

Mine was like that too, first tank 18mpg, then slowly over the last 7K miles it's upped to 22.3mpg in the city and 29mpg on the highway through the rockies.

When I was sub 10k miles I was low-mid 19mpg. Now with 22k on the clock in DC traffic I'm ~21-22mpg.

I'm sure they didn't try to get that last drop in. Most likely they stopped when the pump first clicked off. And as you probably already know, diesel fuel foams, so if they didn't pause for a moment when the pump first clicked off and then continue to add fuel, you were probably at least a half-gallon short of a full tank. If you are measuring after you filled it full, you are probably calculating a little low.

Another thing you might want to know is, at least on my Jeep, the speedometer reads faster than I am actually going, but the odometer shows about 6% fewer miles than I have actually travelled, based on highway mile markers. That means my real fuel mileage is 1.06 times what I calculate using odometer readings.

I have almost 4,800 miles on mine, and am currently averaging about what the EPA ratings said I would. About 21 in town, 26 on the highway.

My odometer is off about the same. I usually average about 22-23 mpg for city, highway, rural gravel road, and farm offroad combined. I would like to see ANY gasser suv go where I go on the farm and get that kind of average mpg. No Contest!

I called my friend that sold me the CRD told him what I got for mpg and that today on the way home it started hard with a big puff of smoke then got that stumble that I see posted after a hard acceleration into traffic.

OH MAN I haven't even had it for 2 weeks yet haven't even made my first payment on it yet, I hope this isn't just the start of things.

They want me to bring it in Thursday afternoon.

and I did notice that my trip odometer and regular dont alway match.

19 miles per gallon, thats it, up hill, down hill, highway or city. Its the new dodge power-wagon, except that only got 8 mpg with the full-time drive train.

I get a consistent 20 or 22 around town in DC metro traffic and a solid 28 on the highway. My first tank wasnt that great either I wouldnt worry about it. Hey it is better than the gasoline version I had as a loner under 10 city and around 20 highway.

Have to look at it in comparison!

You just bought a new diesel in the fall/winter time. You will average 18 to 20 mpg all winter until the winter blends are gone. Yes, your 200 miles of short trips killed your mpg. Just wait, you'll increase quite a bit unless your like me and are heavy into the turbo all the time. I average 21mpg with 80/20 highway/city driving year round. I have gotten a hare over 25mpg once(with my oversized tires and lift kit and extra armor on).

Expect what the window sticker says for summer time driving, and less in the winter.

If you are running a lot of short trips, your mileage will suck. You will see marginal fuel mileage until: 1. Spring temperatures, 2. The machinery breaks-in. Let the dealer look at it if you think this problem but it's not uncommon for this to kick some smoke from time to time. I found it healthy to run it long enough to get it good and hot, then light it up and blow it out.

Remember your 200 miles are all short trips of 5 miles or less. 18 shounds pretty good for that kind of driving. I find that the diesel doesn't do well until it gets fully warmed up which may take 10 ot 15 miles or so. I also find 19-20 on long trips at 86 mph. Best mileage, for me, comes at 70 where I get about 26.

If you find level interstate and set cruise @ 65 mph and have some 45 to 50 cetane fuel you should easy bust 30 mpg as I and a feew others have done.

A 100-110 mph I get about 12-14 mpg on the autobahn with 14K on the clock.

Didn't know they would go that fast. My cruise control tops out at 86. For comparison, my 2005 GC HEMI gets about 6.0 to 8.0 at 100 to 110.
