My intention this morning was to 'T' a sender into the factory location below the thermostat. Drained the radiator, removed the factory sender. Found out it's some sort of Armenian thread...not a pipe thread. It screws in and uses a washer to seal. Sigh.... Anybody have a location for the water temperature sender? |

Your question is a little ambigous... if you removed the factory temp sender, don't you already know it's location? Not clear on what you're asking. PS - hows the Transgo shift kit doing? Did it cure the famous lurching/tranny shudder at 55-65 mph? |

You're right, that question was poorly worded. I was typing quickly before the race started. I was wanting to find out if someone has successfully installed a water temperature sender somewhere. I had high hopes for T-ing into the factory sender but that didn't happen, and I can't find any water jacket plugs or other locations. T-ing into a water hose is my last choice. The Transgo kit is working fine. We took a trip to Kentucky last month and the shifting was great. I wanted to drive the motorcycle but it was too cold. I still drove the 2-lane motorcycle roads, and the torquey diesel and crisp-shifting transmission made a good substitute. I haven't noticed the shudder since installing the kit, but it only happened to me once prior to the kit. |

Ok...have not done that myself, but did spend some time looking at the thermostat last summer when I had overheating troubles. The thermostat is part of the housing that connects to the radiator hose on the passenger side of the engine. Depending on the size of your auxillary temp sender unit, I wonder if tapping that housing is possible. The water temperature at that point should be close to the max as its headed for the radiator. Only problem would be tapping it on the bottom side of the thermostat to be sure the correct temperature is available at all times, thermostat closed or open. Happy to hear the good report on the Transgo. |

The sender has a normal 1/8" NPT thread. The problem I've seen with tapping holes for senders is you need a decent amount of metal thickness...not to mention my questionable tapping skills. |
