Post subject:  Busted fuel sensor?
Well I was driving my KJ yesterday and it went from just over 1/4 tank to right on E with the light on over night. I know there was a 1/4 tank because I've only driven 370 miles on this tank. Unless someone syphoned off my gas druing the 4 hours which I left my jeep I think something is wrong here. Any insight on this one?

A few gallons of diesel would leave a big spot on the driveway. Does it smell like leaking fuel? If someone stole your diesel, hopefully they put it in their gas car. Karma works that way.

I just filled 'er up and it took 15.2gal, just as I suspected. 24.5MPG aint bad :D

Does anyone know why it might have been reading empty?

I have had erroneous readings when I've opened/refilled while the CRD was running. Doesn't seem to set a code like in gassers, but it won't read right for a couple of cycles.

When I leave ours running and then hit the highway, it takes about 15 to 20 miles to come up to full mark.

We have had some frigid conditions here in Colorado the last few days and that may have somehow effected my fuel sensor. It went right back up to full after the fill. Has anyone ever had that sort of problem in the past?

If you parked it on an incline, it may take awhile to read correct. Something about a damper in the meter so you don't see it bouncing alot.

Mine did something like that once about a year ago. Was running at just above 1/4 tank and it dropped quickly to @ E, accompanied by a low fuel light. I was already heading for the truck stop at the time and refilled with just 16 gal (filled to the cap). Never happened again but usually won't run it under a 1/4 tank. Also watch both the gauge and reset the trip odometer each time. Can easily run in the 400+ mile range before I hit the 1/4 tank level.

I've never owned a vechicle with a perfect fuel guage so I note the km's per tank and use both to know when to refill. Alot of vechicles have weird guages, my work truck (2000 Sirerra V8) has the same thing happen sometimes, start the vechicle up on 1/4, go up the road, reads empty, after awhile it goes back to 1/4.

With the CRD, the only thing I've noticed is that sometimes the guage is slow to come up after adding fuel from very empty.
