Post subject:  No CRD certified mechanics

I'll be moving from MD to NY next month. CRD's are not sold in NY and none of the local NY dealerships have anyone qualified to work on my CRD.

How would you guys deal with this problem?

Would you:

1. Take your chances with a Jeep dealer.

2. Find a VW mechanic who will work on CRDs.

3. Find a local diesel shop to work on the CRD.

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

If the dealer does Dodge, too, then they may have someone in the service department certified for diesel work.

drive to Jersey or Ct where there is a CRD tech.

Last I heard from my dealer the CRD class was a whole 6 hrs long. They may have had to improve on that later, when I came in the first time it was like a "deer in the headlights".

I 2nd Ken's recommendation on finding a dodge/jeep dealer where they are more likely to have a diesel mechanic for the cummins engines.

A Dodge dealer should have Cummins and Sprinter techs.

For warranty work, I think your only option would be to take it to Jeep and let THEM farm it out to the Dodge dealer or other qualified facility. That's the way it was in the early days of Cummins in the Rams. You would take it in and the dealer would take it to Cummins if they didn't have a tech.

If its out of warranty, I would try an independant diesel shop that has a good local reputation. Ask for references on a Dodge Ram or TDI site.
