Post subject:  Torque converter Search / CRD specific
hello all,

I'm working with an aftermarket builder of torque converter and transmission parts. They are interested in taking a look at this but need to have a converter for annalysis.(they have lots of experiance with dodge cummins applications and the other light truck diesel units) I can't afford to have mine down for the r/r part of the build or they could have mine. my question is this....does anyone have access to a CRD specific damaged of good torque converter that i can send them.

any help or pointing me in a good direction would be great.

A request....and I mean no disrespect to anyone, but if we could keep this thread focused on the search for a CRD specific torque converter...possibly we can come up with one.

Even with the recall to replace 11,000 of them, I don't know where you'd find one. The recall instructions call for the old one to be returned as a core. I suspect one of DC's suppliers will need a lot of mustard to eat them all.

P.S. Don't take this answer as disinterest. I'm totally on board with what you want to do.

Is it possible there is a CRD sitting in a salvage yard somewhere? With 11,000 units I am sure someone managed to wreck theirs...probably very hard to find...but may be worth a shot.

There was a wrecked one here in WA, but the thing was snatched up and the running gear is going in a Wrangler as we speak.

appreciate the responce, maybe eventually we can come up with one. then those of us that want to upgrade / eliminate the problem will have a source. i for one want to pull my little aliner camper without problems.

As posted in other threads, APS Performance makes Torque Converters for this transmission for gassers. I have emailed them about a "custom" one for a CRD with low stall and high torque multiplication factor in the stator. Will let you know.

Please do... I want to get this fixed. I'm putting my own Moog ball joints on my other Liberty as I've already taken it in once on a ball joint recall. It's clear DC is wasting our time with these inferior quality parts. The Moogs have a zerk fitting and can be greased with an ordinary grease gun. My 02 Liberty has seen mostly highway duty and the recalled ball joints lasted about 3 years.
I plan to keep that one and want it done right.

I thought I had read somewhere that DC was using Moog ball joints for the current ball joint recall. (Having learned their lesson about doing it the cheap way.)

If they are using the Moog MOK3199, there will be a zerk fitting. Somehow, I don't think the recall parts will have a grease fitting...let me know if they do.

Already had mine done, could not see any zerks.

This subject was discussed when I met with DC reps last Spring. They admitted at the time that they are looking at several types of LBJ's both greaseable and not (hint, hint...a change was in the works, would not discuss any details). Told me a change to greasable joints was doubtful as their experience is it causes even more maintenance issues because a typical buyer either doesn't service them or does it improperly. The non-greasable joint eliminates this variable even if the overall life expectancy is not as long.
