Hi,

I just got a used 2005 Liberty Sports CRD, i bought it from dealer, the sales person doesn't know if it has a towing package or not. i was wondering how can i confirm if it has a tow package or not. does all crd come with tow package?..i read somewhere that tow package is an option. right now it doesn't have a hitch receiver. i just a reese hitch receiver from walmart for $109, planning to install next weekend.

thanks for your help

The tow package was an option that came with a class III hitch receiver.

If you didn't have a receiver on the back, I think your just missing the hitch and trailer wiring harness. All the rest is standard CRD equipment.

Thanks. I saw few online stores selling the tow package upgrade kit for liberty that doesn't come with tow package, i think it comes as kit, the part number is 82206937.

And someone in ebay also selling similar one.

A quick way to tell is look for the trailer wiring harness and Class III receiver.

These Kits are for the 3.7L. For the CRD all you need is the receiver hitch and the wiring harness. I would suggest the factory wiring harness since it comes with all of the electronics for converting from separate brake/signal lights on the KJ to common brake/signal lights found on most trailers.

'05 CRD the tow package was just the hitch, wiring, and draw bar was extra.

The '06 model had a power steering cooler added for the TT package was only difference. Well there was the extra $350 for the package.

I think the cooler for the PS pump was a good idea, because the fluid is pretty hot in our CRD's.

Can you show me some documentation for the power steering cooler on a CRD. I had the "tow package" included as part of the deal on my '06 and was told it was just the hitch and the wiring harness on the CRD. If there is an added power steering cooler then I'm gonna have to get the dealer to throw one of those on there.

It was on the Jeep website when the CRD was still available, that was only place I ever saw the power steering mentioned as part of the tow package.

I think it is in the FSM also, but not sure.

I have an 06 with tow package... looked in the 06 service manual and while it has different sections for the power steering pumps for gas and diesel-- it notes no differences between the two in the "Fluid Cooler" section 19-43. The section reads as follows:

"The power steering fluid cooler is located at the front of the vehicle. It is mounted to the radiator lower support just forward of the air-conditioning condenser and just rearward of the front fascia."

I went and looked... and sure enough... I can't see down there. So I will look after the sun comes out tomorrow.

I also "flushed" the atf 4 fluid in the pump reservior by siphoning and refilling today. Figured it could not hurt anything. ATF4 tastes like baby oil... incase you were wondering... (hose popped out of the reservior and I had to start the suction all over again...)

I never really wondered about the taste, sorry.

I checked the '05 FSM and none listed for the CRD, so it must just be the '06 as I remembered reading on the Jeep build sight.

The FSM is poorly written on the PS cooler in regard to the differences between the 3.7L V6 and the CRD. The 05 CRD has no PS cooler even with the tow package. I have an 02 V6 with tow and and 05 CRD with the tow package. The PS cooler is clearly visible on the 02 V6 model. The 05 CRD does not have a PS cooler - I traced the lines - where the PS cooler is on the 02, there is a U connector on the 05 that just returns back to the system.
