Trying to find a grill guard that will fit the CRD front end. There must be some difference as places I have
called all mention they do not supply one for the CRD. I am looking for a bull bar type, center coverage, the
lights can be open. If anyone has found one, or has a picture please post here. I have done a search, but
was unable to locate any topic that may have all ready discussed this issue. I will also post here when I find
one, have searched many popular guards to date and have not found one that fits the CRD. If you have
one all ready on your CRD post it here also. Thanks

Hey old navy, pickup a Silver Limited leftover 2005 CRD tomorrow. $5500 off of list, they will flash it but I must
have a center guard for it, too many deer up this way. Took the center out of my last liberty too week dead center.
The CRD must have a different front on it, I have not found one yet, the ARB is a bit much, looking for a simple
chrome center bull guard.

I got interuped by telephone sorry. Congrates man, be sure to check build date on tranny for TSB on wrong tranny filter that were installed in some. See below.

Is the stock bull bar is that what you are looking for? If so I can check with my buddy tomorrow see what a OEM bull bar would cost you if you like?

NUMBER: 21-016-05
GROUP: Transmission
DATE: September 01, 2005

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING PROVIDED IN ADVANCE. DO NOT ORDER PARTS OR
PERFORM ANY ACTIONS RELATED TO THIS BULLETIN UNTIL SEPTEMBER 09,
2005.
SUBJECT:
RFE Transmission - Delayed Engagement After An Extended Off Period
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves verifying the build date of the transmission, and if
necessary,
replacement of the transmission cooler return filter inside the
transmission.
MODELS:
2005 - 2006 (DR) Ram Truck
2005 - 2006 (HB) Durango
2005 - 2006 (KJ) Liberty / Cherokee
2005 - 2006 (ND) Dakota
2005 - 2006 (WK / WH) Grand Cherokee
2006 (XK) Commander
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with the a 45RFE or a
545RFE
automatic transmission (sales code DG4 or DGQ respectively).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience an initial delayed shift engagement following an
extended
off (not running) period of time, generally after being parked overnight.
The initial shift
engagement may feel like a delay or slip when a transmission gear (reverse
or drive) is
first selected after engine start.
The customer may also experience a MIL illumination. Investigation may
determine that
the MIL is due to one or more of the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes
(DTC's):
P0868 - Line Pressure Low. This DTC will be the most frequently occurring
DTC for
the delayed shift condition.
P0731 - Gear Ratio Error In 1st.
P0736 - Gear Ratio Error In Reverse.
P0841 - LR Pressure Switch Rationality.
NUMBER: 21-016-05
GROUP: Transmission
DATE: September 01, 2005
P0876 - UD Pressure Switch Rationality.
P0944 - Loss Of Hydraulic Pump Prime.
The condition may be caused by a suspect cooler return filter with a part
number of
04799662AB. The suspect cooler return filter may allow transmission fluid to
drain back
out of the torque converter when the engine is not running.
DIAGNOSIS:
1. Turn the ignition to the "OFF" position.
2. Raise the vehicle on a suitable lift.
Fig. 1 TRANS IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
1 - TRANSMISSION IDENTIFICATION (SERIAL AND PART) NUMBER - 20 DIGIT
3. Inspect for the transmission build date (Julian date) (Fig. 1). The
transmission build
date can be determined by inspection of the 20 digit transmission
identification number
(DDDYxxxxxPpartnumber). The transmission identification number is stamped on
the
left side (driver side) of the transmission oil pan flange. The first four
(4) digits of the
transmission identification number are the transmission build date, in
Julian date
format. An example of a transmission identification number would be :
101510492P52119684AA. The first three digits ( 101 ) of the identification
number
equal the day of the year, in this case 101 equals April 11. The fourth
digit ( 5 ) of the
identification number equals the calendar year, in this case 5 equals 2005.
So 1015
equals April 11, 2005.
4. Determine if the vehicle's transmission was built on or between one of
the two sets of
Julian date build ranges listed below:
a. Julian date 0425 (February 11, 2005) to Julian date 0455 (February 15,
2005). 0425
to 0455.
b. Julian date 1015 (April 11, 2005) to Julian date 2345 (August 22, 2005).
1015 to
2345.
21-016-05 -2-
5. If the vehicle has the above condition, and if the transmission Julian
build date is on or
between the range of dates listed above, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
NOTE: The correct cooler return filter will not be available until September
09, 2005.
Qty. Part No. Description
1 04799662 Filter, Cooler Return
4 05013457AA Fluid, Automatic Transmission, MS-9602
ATF+4, Quart
1 05010884AA Mopar ATF-RTV
NOTE: DO NOT use a replacement cooler return filter with a part number of
04799662AB. This filter is suspect of causing the above condition. The
filter
part number is stenciled on the side of the filter case.
SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
8321 Oil Filter Wrench
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Fig. 2 Transmission Filters - 4X4 Shown
1 - PRIMARY OIL FILTER
2 - COOLER RETURN FILTER
3 - COOLER RETURN FILTER BYPASS VALVE
4 - VALVE BODY
-3- 21-016-05
NOTE: All cooler return filters with the "AB" suffix (04799662AB) are
suspect. The
above condition may be corrected by replacing a suspect "AB" filter with a
new cooler return filter whose part number is 04799662 (with no suffix or
with
a suffix that is other than the "AB" level).
NOTE: A replacement 04799662 cooler return filter may come packaged with a
separate threaded adapter stud. The threaded adapter stud is used to attach
the cooler return filter to the transmission. Inspect the stud and note end
without threads. Install the stud end without the threads into the cooler
return filter and tighten the stud-to-filter connection to 18.6 Nm (165 in.
lbs.).
Once the threaded adapter stud has been installed to the cooler return
filter,
install the assembled cooler return filter to the transmission and tighten
the
filter to 14.1 Nm (125 in. lbs.)
Use the procedures outlined in TechCONNECT® ( Service Information Tab / 21 -
Transmission Transaxle / Automatic - 45RFE 545RFE / Fluid / Standard
Procedure / Fluid
and Filter Replacement) to replace the cooler return filter.

No problem, all ready checked, does not apply to mine, was built late Dec 05. Going to have the
latest flash for the 05 and then run it to see how it goes. Please check, looking for anything that
will fit and protect the center area, will take a full grill if that is the only way to get center protection.
The Aries is worthless the center is wide open. Tadas does not fit the CRD and they don't plan to
make any that will fit.

Sure that wasn't late Dec 2004. I got my 2006 in November.

No big deal but I can't imagine they would be building '05 in December '05 when the '06 was already out. I am thinking it would have been '04 on the build date.

Guy we are talking about the tranny, not the build date for the truck itself. The build date on tranny is etch on left or driverside of the tranny, that was what the SM first tried to use for my tranny build date then I showed him the instructions about it being on tranny, and how to read the julian date. My tranny had a Apr build date and Jeep build date of end of July.

:) No, actually we were talking the vehicle build date. Ripster said his '05 had a Dec. '05 build date but '06 models were already out. I am thinking his vehicle build date if December is '04.

Oh, ok I can see that might be hard to do. I wonder when the stop date was for '05's?

Build date was March of 05, had the flash done today, will pick it up tomorrow, shift points have really moved, less low lugging, shifts more towards the 60 or a bit after depending on load, instead of the before 50 or around 50. Will try it for a bit and see how things go.

Hey Ripster wonder what the TDI guys would think if about 1/2 dozen CRD's showed up at Marty's GTG next month? I think Marty has a B100 tanker coming to the event, and Jeff from Rocket Chip is coming to do his thing. He want's to do my CRD, so I'm on the chip line-up for that Saturday. Hey I think I will PM him and ask about inviting some CRD folks.

I really need a front grill guard, and this CRD is completely different than the reg Liberty.
Once I get some time, I would show up at one for sure. Checking the transmission
Julian dates today.

Have you seen the OEM Bull Bar? If interested call the dealer in Bloomfield MI @ 800-334-5337, they have 2 SS Bull Bar Guards. The actual list is $445. I have located two near me, both are black painted and list for $290. Hope this has help you. If it fits a '05 and that means it even fits a CRD as they have the same tow hook mounts.

These are the last of the bull bars, MOPAR has discontinued the part for some reason. They may be coming out with something that would also protect headlights and such, but I haven't seen or heard anything about that happening. Probably wouldn't either.

Hey thanks, my Julian date does not fall in the ones listed, so for now I am not in the group that needs the filter replacement, I still
may change it out as I always change the ATF fluid to synthetic. I will call immediately and try to grab one of them, have you seen
them, are they pretty tough? Stainless will work and the price is worth it if you have ever had a dead center hit. Installed the XM
and went for a ride, what a blast. Pulled along and just a nice rumble, quieter than my TDI, but of course I had played with it
a bunch. Now to find the hose I need to change to keep the moisture out of the intake till you come up with your device. If you can
capture a photo of the connection I need to vent, just email it to ripster@up.net thanks much. What a great vehicle, even with
a few problems.

You have mail with picture. I think I will call and see what that dealer will let me have the painted one for plus shipping. Both dealers are 150 to 175 miles from here is my problem.

Man I hope the guys coming from Canada bring some more of that fine beer I had last year.

Just looked at my 2005 CRD and a buddy's 2005 3.7 I sure don't see any difference in the front end parts. I think your parts guy isn't seeing the CRD listed in the catalog, so assumes it won't work. Lots of catalogs don't show the CRD simply because they don't know they exist.

Yes they will fit a CRD '05 or '06 and local dealer sold a new CRD Limited with one installed to a neighbor. It's the SS one and a Black Liberty CRD, sure looks good.

Called your dealer, he said he did not have any of the stainless ones. Will check a few more places. Have you
watched the amount of blowby when you bypass the CCV, this is a regular little smoker, you never could see
the steam with the TDI, this thing is like a steam engine.
