Post subject:  F37... Who has it this recall done???

My 06-05 CRD is in the shop having the F37 repair/recall done.

The service writer called this AM to tell me the pump is shot and they have to order this part too.

I have 25,000 miles.

How many people here at L.O.S.T have had this recall done?

Thanks,

Tom

I just had this recall done, and it seems to make very little difference in my CRD.

I did and it runs just as fine as it did before the F37, but then all they did was replace the TC and I have had the Flash UpGrade since early last month when they replaced the EGR & EGR FCV.

Let me also add the that the F37 said when replacing the TC to add 1 1/4 qt of fluid, but it took about 3 qts to bring it up to the top line on the hot full mark. He said he didn't think he had ever seen a TC this size only held 1 1/4 quarts. Best I remember my old MB held about 3 quarts of tranny fluid.

So if they don't check the tranny properly you can be running around about 2 quarts low on fluid and that would cause you to have shuttering problems when coming to a stop and at lock up speed. The tech also said this is probably why they have been having so many tranny problems.

Old Navy,

Do you notice any difference at all with the new TC?

Nope, it is same TC that came in the CRD so I didn't expect any. And as I said when I had the Flash done early last month the tranny shifted a lot smoother after that and seem peppier. But that may have been because of the EGR & FCV replacement. It will still light up the tires with a torque stall lanch, ansd still is doing 21/22 mpg in town and combined of 24/25 mpg as of last fill this past weekend.

Once you have driven it far enought to get tranny fluid hot (5 to 7 miles) stop on a level spot and put it in park and check fluid level. It should be at or very close to the top line in the hot check section of the dip stick. If it down near the bottom line on the hot section then you be about quart low on fluid, maybe more. If you are below add mark on the hot check section of dip-stick you will be stressing the TC and cause the shudder effect at stopping and TC lock up. I think the top section between the lines is about 2 quarts, but I don't remember for sure so don't hold me by that please.

Dumb question but where is the transmission dip stick?

In the top of the transmission Dipstick...lol

Couldn't resist. You should see the yellow handle at the back of your engine cover just toward the passenger side...but you access it from your drivers side fender.

I saw that last night changing the oil and fuel filter but didn't know that was for the transmission. I knew it was a dumb one.

Man break out the owners manual and do a little reading on the proper use and operation of the vehicle. It will tell you where things are and what type of fluids to use, how ofter to change them, where fuses are and all sorts of good things that you may not have know about and prevent you sounding silly or lazy. Sometimes a PM might be better, I have no problem helping someone and I don't have a life so I live on the internet.

I thought this forum WAS the OWNERS MANUAL

I think people who haven't looked at thier owners manual might be surprised how much good info is inside.

In my defense, the tranmission is something I would never think of checking, or servicing. I leave that to the professionals, I did look at the owners manual thoroughly before changing my oil, filter and fuel filter. Thats about all I'd do on my own.

Ok if you can handle the oil & fuel filter along with filter change and read the OM then you should have been able to find out about checking the tranny fluid in the OM. My Dodge is same tranny but has no dipstick and according to OM no checks other then for leaks till 110k miles, I was pleasently supprised that our CRD had the stick still and I could check it on ocassions.

Unfortunately, only time will tell. If the torque converters stay together, it worked. I know the shift smoothness on mine is greatly improved.

I like a bit more power and I have chiped all of the diesels and never had and never had any problems.
