After coming to a stop and when idling I frequently notice a sour smell from the diesel exhaust. At first I assumed it was because I don't always use ULSD, but find it doesn't seem to be fuel dependent. Is this normal for the CRD?

This is typical of Diesel powered vehicles equipped with CAT converters. My Jetta TDI had the same smell. Nothing to worry about.

Saber,
The smell is not the sulfurdioxide smell I would have expected from lsd. Now that you mention it sulfuric acid is pretty close to what I am smelling. I would expect that to be reduced with ULSD. I thought NOX's were what the EPA is worried about. I will try to use more ULSD to see if it is reduced.
