Post subject: | Sour smell from CRD exhaust |
After coming to a stop and when idling I frequently notice a sour smell from the diesel exhaust. At first I assumed it was because I don't always use ULSD, but find it doesn't seem to be fuel dependent. Is this normal for the CRD? Lewis |

This is typical of Diesel powered vehicles equipped with CAT converters. My Jetta TDI had the same smell. Nothing to worry about. |

Saber, The smell is not the sulfurdioxide smell I would have expected from lsd. Now that you mention it sulfuric acid is pretty close to what I am smelling. I would expect that to be reduced with ULSD. I thought NOX's were what the EPA is worried about. I will try to use more ULSD to see if it is reduced. Lewis |

Its a EGR diesel thing. My work truck a '06 International 4300 with a DT466 w/EGR smells the same a my CRD when idealing, unless I idle it up to keep the EGR from kicking in ![]() |
