I will let those in the know about diesels answer as to which one is better for the CRD. I am curious how the above numbers also compare to the other brands for diesel use and what about those numbers make one better than the others?

Amsoil suggested oils for the CRD's are the Series 3000 5W-30 and Euro 5W-40.

The Amsoil European oil is formulated for the proper lubrication for this CRD application. The European oil meets and “exceeds” what is recommended by the manufacturer and is also recommended for all the new Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes as well as for the newer North American API specifications. Amsoil only recommends this oil for the CRD and doesn’t recommend their other synthetics options. If you want more detail, I can give you the tech department’s phone number.

I'm sorry, they do recommend the Series 3000 5W-30 also, which is a newer oil that I now run in my Cummins. The Series 3000 is their “TOP NOTCH” oil sort of speak. It also meets and exceeds the manufacturers specifications. On the '05 CRD it was not yet added into the AMSOIL data base and was undergoing tests at that time. I'm thinking about switching to the series 5W-30 now that I've been running it in my Cummins. I really believe that I saw at “LEAST” a 1 mpg improvement when I switched my Engine oil to Synthetic and at the same time changing it in my auto transmission, transfer case, and differentials. But I can’t lie, I did change my factory air filter to an Amsoil air filter at the same time I changed to synthetic. The air filter from what I’ve read through independent lab tests shows the filter to breathe better and block more dirt. I think AMSOIL has the lowest micron rating on the market. I don’t now how to prove my fuel gains other than the fact I travel the same highway and never before saw 21.5 - 21.9 mpg running 75 mph. Before switching to AMSOIL I was averaging at best 19.5 - 19.9 mpg running 75 mph. So pretty big improvement. At 60 MPH I am averaging between 22.0 - 23.0. It’s hard to determine since I live near the Ozarks of southwest Missouri and I’m either going up or down. I’m in the process (this week) of installing a PSM Cold Air intake, COOL HOSE, and the aeroturbine which according to other Cummins owners I should see an additional 1.5 mpg increase (or more) on top of what I got. I say this because I want to modify my air intake on the CRD using the PSM theory.

I'll be in SW MO & NW AR looking at motor homes Thursday, not sure if we are driving the Jeep though. The Magnum is much more comfortable, doesn't get as good MPG's though. Kind of depends on weather I guess. I may stop in Bakerfield MO and visit a cousin, but that is not cast in stone.

That’s funny, we were just at the RV show in Springfield. MO this weekend. We are looking for a 4 season travel trailer. I haven’t been to Northwest Arkansas to look for RV dealerships yet. MID AMERICA RV in Carthage, Missouri are really good people and have been in the business for a long time. Plus they carry all the better quality (in my opinion) manufacturers for all levels of Rving. I would highly recommend them. You can check them out www.midamericrv.com

I have liked what I have seen at New Hope (Itasca & Winnebago) and they have been lot's cheaper in their pricing then others. I have priced at Mid America also, Sprinter based Itasca Navion was about $8k cheaper. New Hope RV

We thought about a trailer, but decided the motor home route was the way for us.

I currently use a WIX oil filter and fuel filter.

I didn't know the wix fuel filter was available yet. They had the number for a year in their catalog but no filter was/is available as of 4 weeks ago.

The WIX transmission filter/gasket kit and WIX Fuel Filter are also listed but will not be available until March/April according to Amsoil. But I was told if you called Heidi in the Tech department then she might be able to special order one for me from Wix. So I'm assuming that Wix has produced some, but not mass produced them? Anyway, the Wix Oil filter is available, or at least when I ordered it last week. Amsoil has several new products coming out this Spring for different vehicles but I am not sure if the CRD is included. I’m hoping they come out with an Ea factory replacement air filter!

Onthehunt, So to answer your question, when I ordered the Wix Fuel Filter, Amsoil (Jamie xtension182) told me it was on back order from the Chicago Warehouse and was expected to arrive next week. Then she later called back and said it may take longer but I could call Heidi and might have one special ordered. Needless to say, it’s due out anytime. She did not comment on the arrival of the transmission filter/gasket Kit.
