Post subject:  EHM and Off Roading
Forgive me if this has already been addressed. I just did the elephant hose mod but am concerned that it may allow dirt, dust, mud, or water into the crank case. Is the EHM safe for off roading and water fording, or shold I look more towards a provent or other catch can?

How deep are you fording? If necessary you can hang the EHM higher, but it is normally at positive pressure so no splashed water should cause a problem. Remember you have a rather low entry to he airbox that could intake water and that is a real killer for a diesel as water does't compress and ingnite.

I don't fordge water high enough to kill the engine, obviously. But I go through waterup to the floor boards, or a little higher. What about dust though?

It has positive pressure and that was how all vehicles used to be vented 50 years ago. I have my EHM with attached Coke Cola bottle with filter material resting on the frame and have had no problems at 11* F or in about 8" of water. If she gets water above the frame at the front wheel she will have water in the passenger compartment most likely.
