Post subject:  Stealership stole my fuel!
I got the jeep back today and they tried to charge me $5 for fuel but my shocked reaction made them waive the fee. So I start driving off the lot and I notice my fuel guage is on E and the light was on. I'm thinking I still had a 1.4 tank and they didnt fix the fuel level sensor problem I was experiencing, so keep driving in stop and go traffic for about 20 minute and 5 miles later I refuel. It takes 20.8 gallons to fill!!! So what happened to the $5 in fuel which would have equaled 1.8 gallons or so? Not to mention, when I dropped the jeep off it had 320 miles on a full tank, should be 4-5 gallons at least. I'm assuming they must have emptied the tank when they replaced the sensor and did not refill it and tried to charge me for fuel which I dont even think was even put in, I mean, who's ever filled 20.8 gallons into their tank? That's bone-dry

The work order states they dropped the tank and replaced the sensor and it worked fine, well WTF happened to all my fuel? There is no way my mileage went from 25mpg to 16... I own that fuel, I payed for it and they are responsible for its disapearance. I'm not sure what I should say to the dealership, any suggestions?[/b]

Dealers always pull the battery cables when they work on the vehicle and that sometimes scrambles the electronic guages for a while in my experience. I would guess that if you tried to fill it you would find gallons are still in the tank rather than vapors.

Did you read what I said, I put in, as in filled my tank, with 20.8 gallons of diesel fuel. Or maybe they put a larger fuel tank in when they replaced the sensor :lol:

Sorry guess I didn't. By the way I have gotten over 21 gallons in mine although I would not reccommend the practice.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just be happy your Jeep is working...and that they didn't create more problems for you. Let the $15 worth of fuel go.

There is a real possibilty that you did not have a 1/4 tank with the bad sensor. I take 17 to 18 gallons when my gauge says 1/4.

Wow.. I wish the worst thing I could say about my dealer is that they fixed the actual problem but stole $5 worth of fuel :shock:

I would'nt worry about the lost fuel. They will probably put it in someones gas jeep as a customer courtesy for the purchase.

I guess the thread NAZIS are in full effect. I just feel wronged by my encounter, I know I had more than several gallons of fuel when the jeep was sent there... Engine Failure was also in full effect BTW,

I will send out a word to the wize... if your fuel sensor malfuctions, get fuel or it will die because the ECU is retarted!!!

I was trying to say that you wouldn't want it back anyways. Where do you think they put the fuel they drained to replace your sensor? Anything laying around that was big enough to hold it I would guess. It's not worth the risk of contaminating your fuel system for several gallons of diesel. Just my opinion as a thread nazi!

I just wish they would be up front about that sort of stuff, $15 in lost fuel isnt much but being beat around the bush or flat out un-informed is poor customer service.

How do you replace a fuel sensor and did they really need to drain the fuel? --> there is still the possibility that I got the new '07 f69 recall for the 25 gallon tank 8)

I wouldn't think they would have to drain any fuel to replace the sensor. Plus the tank has no drain so they would have to tip it or siphon the fuel to get it. It doesn't make sense to drain it. I'm assuming the tank level sensor is inserted through the top. Maybe they lost the tank off the jack and it ran out.Who knows.

Taking your fuel is one thing, that is assumed (and probably stated as an incidental in the warranty). They are going to charge you for what came out of their pumps regardless. It sucks but it is life and fine print (always suck it dry before going in for fuel tank related service).

This happens for self service to, once I had to use 10 gallons of gasoline for fire starter after pulling a tank to replace a sensor and finding the baffles were "ff'd up" after draining it into a handy bucket I didnt want to try to reuse it.

Oh and it might not be that far off, if I drain mine to vapors I can get 22 in it but that is 550 miles on the odometer (dont recommend it). Remember there is a filler neck that holds a half to one gallon to fill.

I believe they did put some fuel in it. I've squeezed in 22.5 after running in the city on E for a few days.
