The local Farm and Fleet where I buy my 5w40 shell has stopped carrying it. The place where it usually is was empty and the label on the shelf was gone. Are they reformulating it for the new specs?? Better buy yours now the mobil I had to buy was 28.00 for 4 qts!! 5w/40 delvac. We will see on oil analysis if it is twice as good. |

I'd keep an eye open at Wal-Mart. After church a couple of Sundays ago, I asked the wife if she wanted to go to Pizza Hut in Berea, KY for some pizza (Lexi, our 5 year old, is just like me....an Italian food freak). She really didn't want to do the Pizza Hut thing, and I was not interested in going to Cracker Barrel. We compromised and wound up at Captain D's in Richmond, KY. She's generally not too picky if she gets out of cooking on Sundays. We were sent home a note from Lexi's Kindergarten class stating they could use some school supplies for Monday (gee, thanks for the "short" notice)---crayons, notebooks, disposable camera, etc. so while in Richmond, we headed to WalMart. Originally we were going to do a "drive-by".....me and Lexi would stay in the truck while Becky got what she needed. I needed a battery for my remote garage door opener, so I decided to go on in, get my batteries, and blunder through the Automotive Department. After finding my batteries, I proceded to the Automotive Department.........and found 5W40 Shell Rotella-T Synthetic on the shelf for $7.00 per gallon. I thought this couldn't be right....then I took a gallon down to the Toy Department and scanned it on the nearest pole mounted price scanner. Sure enough, $7.00 per gallon ! I called Becky on her cell phone (she was in the grocery section getting Zesta crackers) and instructed her to get a cart ASAP, as I wanted to "guard" the 6 gallons of loot remaining on the shelf. After securing a cart and loading said loot, I went to the Automotive Service Desk and asked the manager if they could check on inventory quantity. A few minutes later, I was told 6 gallons were all they showed. By the way, regular 15W40 Shell Rotella-T (non synthetic) was $7.52 per gallon. I've been using the 5W40 Rotella-T in my 2003 Dodge RAM 2500 Cummins since my truck had 21k miles on it, with 8k mile drain intervals. I'm just now at 46.1k miles. I couldn't find any 5W40 Rotella-T in Berea WalMart the last time, and ended up paying around $16.70/gallon for it at O'Reilly's Auto Parts in Berea. The next two oil changes for Casper (RAM 2500) won't get any cheaper than this ! I also use it in the CRD as well. Greg |

Small world I guess. I was in the Berea Walmart on Wednesday. I'm up that way (Lexington) on business fairly often. |

It doesnt stay on the shelf long here either. Luckily I have 4 or 5 Wal-Marts within a 30 minute drive. That $7/gal must have been a fluke its always been twice that for me. |

Are you going 10k changes on your jeep? Oil change intervals will be different for everyone. Do sample and try to avoid blanket statements. |

From the three oil changes done to mine, I'm not too concerned about wearing out either the Mobil 1 or the Rotella synthetic (or if they are class IV or V). More concerned about the heavy soot loading from this engine, much more than any diesel I've ever had to service. I'm sticking to 6250 miles until such a time I can have a sample tested to know where I stand on the soot. |

Soot level on mine was always good. The oil sure is black though. Worse than a cat motor. Good call on the 6k intervals though. I was just ok'd for 7k after 4 oil changes at 6k. |

GotDiesel, good post....with very good information. I am currently using Rotella T, and I would stick to the factory interval of 6,250 unless you want to do UOA. If you want to extend your OCI, then i would also save the records in the event you have a problem with warranty coverage...which hopefully you won't. |

Walt TY, Rotella T, and M1 T&SUV 5-40 are very good oils for our CRD'S M1 is in a group V BUT the Rotella T is not far behind for the cost, and I will do my best for now on to post facts like this to help out every one and I will post the facts on the oil filter with the micron numbers as soo as I get my other pc back up.
