The parts catalog doesn't say it 'won't' work on a CRD, but the counter guy didn't know if it would or wouldn't. Unfortunately they didn't have one in stock to compare either. Anyone know if it will work before I order one?

Thanks,

-Vic

If you can find someone with a gas-powered Liberty you could do a comparison of the standard fuel caps. Alternately ask the dealer if you can look at a cap on a vehicle in stock - the plastic tether pops right out of the fuel door and you could walk it over to a gas model and do a side-by-side. My best guess is that it will fit; it should just be the nozzle opening in the filler tube that is different. FWIW...

The Liberty gas cap is the same as my wife's Honda Odyssey...so there are only a few types out there. It would be very strange if DC decided to fit a different gas cap to the diesel. But you never know.

Most diesel caps are non-vented where as gas fuel caps of the last 25 yrs are vented so I doubt they would interchange.

EDIT: I just went and looked at mine and it does look to be vented so I really don't know now

I am just waiting for some idiot to siphone my diesel into their gas mistakenly and have their car screwed up, I would laugh for a year about that.

duh - I was at the dealer and could have checked two on the lot - I just wasn't thinking. I'll have to do that. I did compare it to the cap on my 99 Diesel Ram and the threads are quite a bit different. And its such a pretty green...

Might sneak down to Jeep at lunch tomorrow and compare them. Thanks.

I'm 1/2 worried about diesel coming out and 1/2 worried about something wrong going in.

arent our tanks siphone proof or resistant. i know my friend had to replace his tank on his burbon and tried for 2 days to get the gas out. he finally had to drop the tank to drain it.

has anyone tried to siphone fuel from a crd or gas lib.

After reading about the anti-siphon fittings I went out and tried to run a hose (3/8") down my fill tube. It got about 8-12" down and ran into *something*. Guess I won't be able to get gas out of my jeep when I wanna do some huffin' :?

I sorry I couldn't check sooner, but yes it works. I have one for the Magnum that I switch out with the non locking when on the road, it's for when parked in motel parking lots. All that needs to be done is gently pop the teather out of the fuel cap and drill a same size hole in about the same place on the new cap and then pop the teather back into the hole and you will have a teathered locking fuel cap. Notice I said FUEL cap not gas cap.

I remember leaving my locking cap 2 years ago some place while vacationing in Idaho. 100 miles down the road in a small farming town, a guy in a pick up pulled up and yelled that I had no gas cap (the filler door was open). Why did I not get a error code or CHECK ENGINE light????
In the next town I went to a Jeep dealer who had no caps in stock. Luckily I found an exact replacement however in the NAPA store next door. So no need to get one from the dealer.
