As the owner of an early purchase (4/05) of an early build (2/05) CRD I now have just under 40k miles and I thought I would comment on my "long term test" as I am 40% of the way to the 100k mile mark where I will most likely think about a replacement. I realize that diesels have a reputation for longevity, but libertys do not.
I don't think there are many CRDs with as many/more miles than I have at present.
Other than "normal" maintenence here is my list of repairs
1k: Mats/Vent Visors
10k: New EGR
12k: New Tires (junked oem STs)
15k: Replacement Windshield (rock hit)
20k: hitch purchase (from ehitch.com)
30k: lower ball joint/f31
38k: f37
I have made no mods, or installed provent
The only cost to me was the mats, vents, tires, windshield (what ins co had me pay) and hitch.
You put new tires on voluntarily (granted, the OEM tires suck). (mine still have plenty of tread now at 12K miles.)
The Jeep didn't hurl itself at the rock, so you can't blame it for breaking its windshield.
You chose to install a trailer hitch.
F31/ball joints//F37 are preemptive recalls and "customer satisfaction" repairs to avoid something breaking.
So, ummmmm. It looks to me that the only unplanned, broken item that required fixing was the EGR. I suspect there are a few people around here who would like to be in your shoes. You've not had any other engine issues, so why shouldn't this diesel last for 250K miles or more?
So far, the only thing that outright broke on mine were the door locks 28 days after I bought it. Otherwise the only "repairs" have been the standard flashes and recalls that apply -- all warranty work. The only other expense has been the regular maintenance. Oh, and a new tire cover. And those Jeep, terry cloth seat covers.
