Every ounce and awhile I get a whiff of desiel fuel. This happens when I'm moving with the windows up. I thought it may be splashing out of the cap or leaking in the engine compartment, but after further inspection neither place had any leaks. I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them and if you've figured it out.

Any time I've smelled fuel - it's been associated with a spill or splash from filling the tank, sometimes there's diesel on the ground - step on it and you'll smell it for a while., and the pump handles almost always have some residual on them.

I've never had a diesel smell just start while driving.

If I did I'd take a closer look at the fuel filter - a couple of folks have mentioned issues there - although the standard symptom is an air in the fuel stuttering.

Check your fuel filter for leaks, especially around the electrical connections. Only had this twice, both times after the filter was serviced. Was spilled fuel both times, washed away with detergent and water.

Usually happens to me after I refuel. Rationale: There is a lot of spilt diesel fuel by the pumps and if it is wet out, it makes a nasty puddle that is hard to avoid.

I keep a cheap rubber slush-style floor mat over the nice carpet mats. Staying out of the spilled fuel is almost unavoidable and makes a stinky mess inside if it gets into the carpet.

Yeah, I had to stand in the middle of a Diesel puddle yesterday to fill up my CRD...and I was wearing a business suit and dress shoes. Those shoes can get pretty slippery with Diesel on the bottom of them. Luckily the wife got me slush mats for christmas...so none gets on the carpet.
