No glow plug light

I just picked up my 2006 Limited CRD (runs great, neat little rig) and noticed that the GP light does not come on with the ignition key in the on position, as indicated in the owner's manual. So the question remains, is it the indicator light that is hooped or are the GPs not functioning. Oh, where the pickle is the GP fuse? I found two items in the fuse box labelled "fuel heaters" which sounds like it would be part of the GP circuit. I also own a 2004 VW TDI which makes an obvious relay click when the GP light comes on. To test a cold start I have parked it out of the heated garage for the night; I guess I will know at about 5:30 AM whether the GP light is out or the GPs themselves are non functioing.

Any info would be much appreciated.

If the little girl is warm the light will come on off in a flash. Winter out side -20 two to three seconds. I hope this helps

Right, the glow plug light won't even come on if everything is warm enough.
I rarely see the light come on. (I'm in Florida)

Unlike VW, where the GP light comes on everytime you turn the ignition, the Jeep needs to be at a certain temperature. It was -4 C (we are having one of our famous chinooks) this morining and the GP indicator showed up for a couple of seconds. Either I read the owner's manual wrong, or DC has an error in their publication. I figure it was my bad. Thanks for the replies.

I bought my CRD in November and thought the glow plug light was bad. Not so, temp in garage usually between 40 and 50F you have to look fast to see the light blink near 40F.

Unlike your tdi you'll never hear the gp relay unless you have your head under the hood :lol:

It's on a harness in front of the master cylinder and behind the battery ans says "Bosch" on it

Almost every electronic under our hood says "Bosch". To be more specific, it also says "4 Zyl." on it.

Nice video, but the engine is supposed to be started as soon as the GP light goes out....he waited an awful long time. :shock:

I normally do exactly that. I just wanted to get a EVIC temp readout.

(It's my video...)

Stupid EVIC was wrong at first anyway.

I notice the RPMs appear to be pegged around 1000RPM when idling after the start. Is that normal for your vehicle? Or did you have your foot on the accelerator? Or would anyone know if this is something done on purpose by the CRD to compensate for the cold?

When I start mine up, the RPMs jump to about 850, then go back down to around 730 for idle.

On the colder mornings here, it will kick up close to 1k rpm for a few before settling down. Happened today when I starter her up. Temp was about 22F this morning.

No glow plug light
