Post subject: | How did you get to your CRD...a trip down memory lane |
I thought this would be kind of cool to post. Kind of a get to know everyone by their past cars thread. So what did you have before you got your CRD? Let's go back through all the cars we have owned in our lifetimes and hopefully some of us will get a good laugh going down memory lane... ![]() Here is a list of the cars I have owned starting with my first and ending with my CRD: 1- 1978 Ford Mustang II - 2.8L V-6 4spd 2- 1976 Saab 99 4spd 3- 1986 Ford Escort (not fuel injected) 4spd 4- 91 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L AT 5- 98 Cavalier 2.2L 5spd 6- 01 Cavalier Z24 2.4L 5spd 7- 02 Chevy Monte Carlo SS AT 8- 04 Volvo S40 1.9T AT 9- 06 Jetta TDI DSG 10- 06 Jeep Liberty CRD Limited Hey don't laugh at some of my first cars. That Saab had over 240k on it before I blew out the freeze plugs and cracked the block. |

(Lived in Germany for a few years) 1987?-ish Opel Ascona (?) Can't recall exact spelling 1990(?) Euro spec Ford Fiesta (this was NOTHING like the US vehicle ) 1987 Buick Century Station Wagon (a chick magnet if there ever was one ![]() 2006 Liberty CRD The Buick had 290,000 miles on it when I dumped it. Danged thing refused to die and hardly ever needed anything major fixed. The worst year was about the time it was 10 years old -- it ate a A/C compressor, alternator, and engine mount. During its last three years it asked for nothing more than oil changes and brake pads. My wife made me give it to one of her relatives when I got the CRD. I hear it is still rolling around, so I should ask for a mileage update. |

VEHICLE WHAT HAPPENED ’64 Pontiac Lemans STOLEN ’67 Opel Rallye Died ’69 VW Bug Rusted to pieces ’73 Opel Manta Killed by drunk driver ’78 VW Rabbit Diesel Body disintegrated by salt '78 MGB Sold ’82 VW Quantum Sold ’87 Volvo 740 Engine gone ’93 Volvo 850 Still have it ’97 Toyota Tacoma Sold ’00 Nissan XTERRA Sold ’05 CRD Still have it (so far) I know there have been others, but booze, drugs, time have taken toll on my memory. I only really miss 2 of the above: the VW BUG and the MGB. The bug took me everwhere as a young guy, got me laid alot, and never let me down. The MGB was the most fun to drive, but was a love/hate relationship as every 400 miles something else broke. |

87 Honda Accord LXi - First car, hand-me-down 98 Honda Civic CX - First new car, great driving little hatchback 00 Jeep Wrangler Sport - A Jeep wasn't for me yet, only had 6 mo. WAY too small 01 Nissan Xterra XE - Drove the crap out of this, heavily modified for offroading 02 Dodge Ram 2500 Ext Cab Diesel - Favorite so far, but too big and way too much $$$$ 04 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon - Loved my Rubi, hated the gas pump 06 Jeep Liberty Sport CRD - A great compromise, all things considered. I'd still replace it with the same. |

1. '65 Mustang 6 cyl auto, finally parted with it 5 years ago. 2. '75 Ford Granada V8 302 auto - drove to prototype in New York, didn't want to mess up the Mustang 3. '68 Ford LTD V8 4 barrel auto - my parent's car, gave them the Granada, I drove the LTD to Charleston when on my first boat 4. '79 Mustang V6 auto - bought brand new, traded in the LTD for it. Solid lifters on that engine SUCKED! Gave it to my parents at 100K miles after having to get the tranny rebuilt, sold to other relatives soon after. 5. '87 Subaru GL Wagon 4WD 5 speed - bought brand new, replaced the '79 Mustang. Still in the driveway, still runs, 165K miles, soon to be sold when I find the bloody title. At $12K new, best value for the money I've ever had in a car. 6. '04 Dakota Club Cab 4X4 4.7 V8 with our favorite tranny - bought new, loved that truck but the gas mileage flat out sucked, ended up still driving the Subaru to work. 7. '05 Jeep Liberty Sport CRD - traded in the Dakota for it, you know the story on this one 8. '87 MB 300D Turbo diesel - bought used with 132K on it. FINALLY something reliable enough to replace the Subaru Also - 1. '83 Honda CB650 Nighthawk - bought new, still down in the barn in decent shape. 2. '81 Ford Courier - battery powered electric |
