I'm looking for a used 2006 Limited CRD that came from the factory with the improved transmission pump. What number sequence in the VIN would indicate that the vehicle has the new pump, i.e. built after August 2006? (I read on the Forum that the new pumps were installed in August, 2006).

They ran out of CRD engines early in 2006, I don't think they made any past May/June or so. There are posts back in the archives on it.

Mine is a Feb 06 one and it is not included in the recall so far......It seems that those of us with newer ones have less problems..... I think

Mine is an 05/06 build, and I have 8,045 miles on it, with no complaints... yet. But honestly, everyone is freaking me out. I am half tempted to bail out of this deal before it gets bad. But so far, I am enjoying the CRD.

Enjoy it and don't obsess worrying. You've got warranty coverage from the manufacturer for major issues.
There are some proactive things you can do that are completely at your discretion. You can read the posts around here for such things. You can see by my signature line the repairs I've had but all under warranty. I'm also planning on driving this thing until it falls apart from old age.

Your asking the $64 question There don't seem to be any clear cut answers except there is a "clean" (or some other such name) date of sometime in November of 05 when they deemed everything good. After that date, no F37 recall. Looking at my shift points they match the post F37 results. As to better pumps, the only thing known for sure is the 07 models (no 07 crd's for the US) come with the redesigned pump. On the Torque converters, it's not been established for sure if the ones put in under the F37 are more of the same or changed in some way. Also what about the TC's in the "clean" 06 models?

The "shudder and or bucking" I've had since new now seems to be air in the fuel instead of TC/transmission related. Having owned other modern diesel cars, my seat of the pants feeling is our 2.8L, 4 valves per cylinder, common rail and so on engine is not putting out like it should and is being held back The EGR flow control valve problem causing EGR errors seems to be mostly a 05 problem that was corrected by a updated FCV. Besides the shudder and a coolant hose with the clamp on wrong I've had no problems at 5k miles I've not had it in for the reflash and LBJ recalls yet though

It would really be great if DC came foward with some information (in my dreams)

Would not be surprised to find that DC can't pinpoint the cut-off by vehicle build date. A quality engineers approach would be similiar to the defective transmission filters where they were able to isolate the problem by Julian build dates of the transmissions. This sounds more like bean-counter's aproach, limiting the scope of the F37 with a control group. Ever notice that the cut-off appears to be roughly everything built before 1 year from the date the recall was announced? Sounds more arbitrairy than scientific, taking a wait & see approach letting you field-test whatever they supposidly did differently in the later '06's to benchmark a difference in repeat falures with the older ones. (not that DC would ever ues a customer in an experiment) Gut hunch is they will eventually recall all of them.

Very true and wasn't November 05 the julian date of the transmission filter problem or was it early January 06 If so they could be blaming the whole thing being caused by the filters

Not a single U.S. Specification CRD Liberty came with the newly redesigned transmission pump. The redesigned pump was introduced as a production change for all 2007 Chrysler vehicles that use the 545RFE transmision.

Now the torque converter is a whole different ball of wax and I don't know the answer to that one.
