Downshift at 60mph?

If you are cruising interstate or highway at 60mph and decide to floor it, does your transmission downshift? Mine just lugs and gains speed steadily. I have to hit the O/D off to get it to downshift.

On a seperate note, what is your RPM at 60mph? I've seen various posts with different figures. I am running 1750 at 60mph and am wondering who has a different figure and why...

Yes it downshifts if I floor it. It does the same at 100 mph too.

Check to see if your accelerator bracket is getting loose and not allowing the pedal a full range of movement.

Just a knats booty's hair under 1700 rpm at 60 mph. Do you have the thicker slush style mats that keep the pedal from going down all the way?

Yeah those matts either wont let you push the pedal all the way OR they make the pedal get stuck when you're racing 1/8th mile tracks. :shock:

I'll check after work, but I don't think my Mopar slush mats interfere with the pedal.

This is just simply not true...at least in my case. I have the slush mats and they do not interfere with the pedal at all. Yes, if you floor it at 60 you should downshift.

Yea, if you have the Mopar ones made specifically for the KJ, they have a cut out area for the pedal, BUT other have been known to hang up.

i have the slush mats from mopar and still have run into that issue. granted, i just put them over my regular mats because i didn't feel like taking the other ones out and exposing bare carpet underneath, but the mats get pushed up when climbing in and out and i periodically have to adjust them because if the mat is up far enough it will still cause the pedal to hang up.

I have them, and live in a snowy climate. I don't have any leak through and they contain the melt water nicely. Plus, you can use the non-slide-up hook. You may want to consider this option.

These are the ones I have. It is pretty hard to install them wrong...no problems at all with them.

Throw out those junky carpet mats...they aren't any good and piling mats on top of each other will lead to problems. If the slush mats are attached to the hook on the driver side floor they will not move.

Me too no blue. They are amazing the heavy weight version. I was pleasantly surprised.

They do if they are not secured to the hook in the carpet!

Thanks to everyone that posted. My floor mats were pushed up far enough forward to stop the downward travel of the accelerator.... and here I was thinking the worst about my transmission going, gonna have to get the recall done, jeep's gonna be in the shop for days, etc, etc. Thanks for reminding me to keep it simple. Driving home sure was fun!
