Post subject:  dumping extended warranty

I unknowingly bought a 3rd party extended warranty for $1650 when I got my '05 CRD (new). Since the '05s have the 7/70 powertrain warranty, I'm debating whether or not I should make a big stink at the dealership to see if A) they will transfer the 3rd party warranty to a DC warranty or B) buy it back from me.

There are only 21k miles on the CRD, so technically this 3rd party piece of crap hasn't even gone into effect yet. Even if they pro-rate it for the 21k miles, that's still 70% of the price back ($1155). I could definitely use the money (if it gets paid to me) for mods, or I wouldn't mind the refund going toward my loan balance.

Any thoughts on this would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Unless specifically added on, most aftermarket warranties do not cover emissions equipment so no EGR or related components will be covered.

Also, in Arizona, if you don't use your warranty you can be refunded the full amount. Maybe your state laws are similar.

The basic 7/70 doesn't cover the EGR Valve anyway. Best of luck to ya.

Post subject:  finally!!

After leaving several messages for the finance guy and not getting any response, I was pretty miffed. I tried once again on Friday (yesterday) and he actually answered the phone. I'm up front with him and tell him that I thought it was a DC warranty but only recently fount out it's not. He says I can "convert" it to a DC 7/70 bumper-to-bumper for a modest (my word, not his) $900.

Gave it some thought breifly. Hmmm, I already have 3/30 bumper-to-bumper + 7/70 powertrain (since it's an '05). I took the refund. Just had to go in and sign a cancellation form- quick and easy, no pressure. I am very pleased. The downside is that it will take "up to 8 weeks to get processed".

Once it clears, I can finally get my skinks from Rock Lizard, the All-J super skid, and have some left over for a lift or new TC!

I definitely wouldn't have bought an extended warranty if I had the 7/70. I would just roll the dice and be money ahead IF anything happened. For the most part, EW are good for the sellers.
