I am hoping people can post up some real out of pocket repair expenses that they have had to pay because their B2B 3yr/36k mile warranty has expired and they did not have an extended warranty. I chickened out and did not purchase an extended warranty yesterday, but I need to decide before I start burning a crap load of miles onto the Jeep when I return to work February 12 (been on break due to back surgery so the Jeeps been sitting for 6 weeks while I ponder the warranty issue). After labor and parts, what are CRD repairs of any type going for? EGR, Flow Control Valve, Sensors, ect. ect. ect. Please assist in giving me a reality check. Thanks. ![]() |

Mine's still under warranty, but just out of curiousity, I asked the service advisor what it typically costs to replace the EGR valve. He said about $300.00. OUCH! I guess that includes parts & labor, but I can't say for sure. |

Well you have to figure an oil change is $100 minimum...everything else goes up from there. I got the 60 month/70,000 extended warranty (since the 2006 only came with 36/36,000) at the time of purchase for $1380.00. I have never in the past purchased an extended warranty but they worked the $1380.00 out of the Dealer Rebate that DC was giving at the time. The free "rent a car" perk has been used for 6 days and is very convenient to have. These days almost any repair is at least $400.00 +/- a bit. |

this is the reason why as soon as mine is out of warentee. I am going to be buying a factory service manual. I'm not about to pay someone else to work on my vehicle unless i cant figure it out then i come here. the dealer is the last resort after my warentee runs out. |

These days almost any repair is at least $400.00 +/- a bit. This is just a tough call for me because I used to be able to fix everythig myself, but lately, I seem to be a guy in my 30s with the body of someone in their 70s so I'm feeling pretty vulnerable to the repair issue. I realize that a 100k/7yr warranty would suite me good, but at $2300 I'd have to go through a bunch of $400 repairs. I've been pondering this since last September and still have the "deer in the headlights" syndrome - frozen into inaction for this decision... Anyone else with repair bills they care to share??? |

Slightly off topic, but has anyone priced a routine timing belt replacement for the CRD yet ? Greg |

$2300 would be covered easily with a timing belt repair and maybe a turbo replacement or ECU replacement...plus the "rent-a-car". |

Timing belt wouldn't be covered though.... |

Every 100,000 miles is not routine. So you do it once, maybe twice. Big deal, most vehicles have a timing belt and need it changed at the same interval. The only thing that might cost more is the lack of aftermarket parts. |

Greg I don't believe the belt will be any more expensive than any other timing belt. Hopefully a good quality aftermarket belt will be available by the time 100K miles comes around. The one thing that concerns me is I read where special tools are needed to maintain shaft orientation while changing the belt. Have done timing belts on several engines, this would be a first to need alignment tools. |

Quite normal on dual overhead cam engines. All they do is hold the cam gears from moving when you r&r belt. Lots of generic tools out there to do this. |
