O'Rilley's started carrying it here last summer, only saw the 0W-40 Thursday when I was in the local AutoZone getting some Lok-Tite red for a up coming project.

It still is pricing me out. I'd rather pay twice that a gallon at Walley's for the blue jug stuff that has a +4 rating.

Only real benefit the M1 users like myself will see is if we drive this rig enough to maybe go 200,000 miles and up front maybe a 1 or 2 mpg increase in fuel mileage.

Maybe. I'm not sure the M1 is any slicker than the Rottella. The CRD tech down at the shop uses Shell exclusivly in his Ram stuff and he has over 300,000 on it. It looks like hell on the outside, but he claims the engine is solid as a rock.

The Shell Synthetic Rotella is fine. Mobil 1 has had some controversy lately with not being a group 4 oil. A "true" synthetic is supposed to be made from group 4 base stocks, or so they say. You can learn all you want about oil and more on bobistheoilguy.com.

Yea, it came up on my other furum. Something about the M1 being a "lesser" oil that vaporizes quickly. When I was useing it at first, it was going somewhere. I don't know if it was from vaporizing, break in or because I was over filling it do to the miss-marked dip stick. Anywho, new mark on stick now, broke in I think (22,000 miles), and Rotella and the level stays where I want it through the 5000 miles in use.

Rotella T is not a true synthetic it is a group 3 oil anyways so same differnce. i wasn't trying to start a oil argument. its just hard to find 5w-40 around me so i thought id post this up.

Yea, I don't know either. I was just saying it is a long mileage getting oil if you own a rig that long. Longest I ever owned a rig was 130,000 miles so in my case, you could use just about anything unless you have a turbo.

Well a while back there was something on bobistheoilguy where someone sent in a M1 EP 5w30 sample which was revealed to be a group III base...which caused a big stink. I don't think Mobil discloses what their base stock is either...which causes me concern. I am beginning to question if I should continue to use M1 oils.

I'm not an oil guy so I don't know either. I just use the Rottella because it is cheap, easy to get, my tech raves over it, and he says it has help get him 300,000 miles in his rig. Good enough for me.

Also, on bobistheoilguy there are some really positive UOA for Rotella as well. One I saw was with 13,000 miles and I think that was in an 01 Cummins.

I'd have to be like oldnavy and get the oil analized before I felt comfortaable going that long. I do 5000 miles in between. Might be overkill, but I sleep good at night.

OK I have to get the oil changed again at the dealer, AUGH, and the BP they use is $17.16 a liter. Thanks god I buy my own filters! IO will try to get them to leave me a empty, CLOSED, bottle in the back so I can photograph it and post it here. I am not sure what the difference is but according to my dealer, BP and MB oils are the ONLY ones allowed in the CRD to avoid the warrenty issues. MB oil is $29.04 a liter. As I am getting 3 months per oil change I need to source this stuff out and start changing my own oil.

Getting a Fumoto valve really helps. I'm more inclined now to change my oil after I got it installed as it makes things so much easier and cleaner.

I've used Rotella 5-40 synthetic on a VW tdi with 10k changes and at 114k it's never needed any oil between changes. On cars prior to that I used Rotella-T 15-40 and it's billed as the "million mile oil"
Rotella is not cheap, it's affordable :D

Exactly! 8) I use the word cheap if it doesn't take too much money to buy. Junk if it's .......well, cheap. :D
