Post subject:  Liberty Oil - API C* vs MS-10725

Hi All,

I see there have been many posts about oil for the Libby, but I was wondering does anybody know what the differences are between the MS and API rating systems?

The Liberty manual says API-CF certified and meets MS-10725 requirements. So what does that mean :?

Do higher API certifications like CH-4, CI-4+ or CJ-4 automatically meet the MS-10725 requirement OR is the MS requirement something entirely different OR is the MS requirement just some warranty crap from DC that really doesn't matter :?:

As for CF...any C H-I-J will meet and/or beat CF

Chrysler Material Standard is just another way to describe oil characteristics.

Yeah that is basically what I have read. But how are they different? or are they not different?

Will a CJ automatically meet the MS-10725 rating as well :?:

Yes CJ will meet or exceed that standard. The API standard is the government standard whereas the MS is the Chrysler group manufacturer's standard, from what I understand. Most major automakers keep their own standards for lubricants and whatnot
