Post subject:  CRD vibration like carb is cloged

We have a '06 CRD and they did the ball and torque recall. I have noticed since day one a small vibration around 55 mph in OD. It happens when I am almost coasting with very little gas on the pedal on level ground. It feels like the carb ist dirty! ( I know its a diesel).

I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem and if anyone got it fixed, what was it?

ps.

In my oppinion, it feels like there is something wrong with the injectors or the amount the injectors at low RPM, maybe the fuel mapping is off............

Yes, I am for very real. Has nothing to do whether I like you or not. It has to do with value add to the forum. Where is the value add of take it to a pro or you'll get a lot of speculation here? To me those options you presented are obvious, and this person is looking for value adds. If I don't have value adds which in this case I don't, I won't post for the sake stating obvious premises just to create clutter or increase your post count. Otherwise, your may respond to a newbie and they just may walk and think this is another Edmunds TownHall forum.

There also used to be a problem with the front driveshaft and vibrations at that same speed. It would vibrate whether you were in 4wd or not...the fix was to replace the front driveshaft. Good Luck!

I am a tech myself.
I race motorcycles and do all my services and repairs but the dealer here in Athens, GA did not have a clue either. That's why I am looking for someone with the same problem. The dealer are nice but not very knowledgeable when it comes to tech stuff, we knew about the torque recall before they did.
Anyway..............

Who has something like that a slight sputter at 55mph w/ little gas. feels like a carb problem????

Thanks
ps.
I will look into the front drive shaft issue, thx

pss.
what happend to the days, when you could just pop the carb off, clean it and all was good, now you have to have a computer and a PHD in engeneering to just change the oil........lol

Try some simple things before your get too excited: 1). Check the intake manifold pressure/temp sensor for carbon fouling. If it's obstructed it may cause poor fuel metering. Can be safely cleaned w/ carb cleaner or ether. 2). Bleed your fuel filter. 3). How old is your fuel filter? I know DC says 25K service intervals but my experience with diesels is it better to change it annually before the weather gets below freezing. A clean filter frequently cures a lot of cold weather diesel issues.

RFCRD is on the right track, but I would use MAF Sensor Cleaner to clean that sensor, instead of ether or carb/choke cleaner. It really could be a number of other things too, like your wheels being out of balance or some have reported that they had a bad tire. I have also heard the driveshaft fix before as well. Also heard of loose and/or failed motor mounts.

Does the whole vehicle vibrate, or does it seem to mostly come through the steering wheel (e.g. the steering wheel shakes but the car feels stable and smooth otherwise)? I had bad front rotors when purchased new that caused this along with pulsating brakes at higher speeds. A quick trip to the dealer and new rotors fixed the problem.

Too bad you can't just blow it out like I do on the Autobahn. I am never near 55-60 mph so I do not notice it. I tried it once and I think I know what you are talking about. Since my off Autobahn speeds are arounf 70-85mph, on autobahn is 100-120 mph and in the city is around 35-40 mph, I can't help too much. I have noticed what you are speaking of but I just give a little pressure and it goes away.

Funny I actually am form Berlin, West. You are right it would be nice to take it to the AVUS and just let it run........man I miss the roads in Europe and the speed.
