So was doing my oil change at 45,000 miles and I have a brand new Air Temp Sensor ready to put in (I always like to have a back up). What size Allen wrench does it take to unscrew that bolt holding it in? I thought I had one that fit but I was putting pretty good torque on it trying to break it loose to no success. (Gosh I hope it not like the first time I change oil and had to use and torque wrench to break the plug loose). So rather than stripping out the Allen head I thought I better ask though who have pulled and cleaned the sensor.

From what I remember, it's either 4 or 4.5 mm. And you're right, it's just a small machine screw, it shouldn't take gorilla torque to remove it, unless someone at the factory loctited it.

It is 4 mm as shown in the CRD FAQ section. Mine was a bit torquey when I first cleaned mine.

Use a touch of anti-sieze on reassembly...Always helps with disimilar metals. Aluminum mannie/steel screw

Thanks a lot. I got it out out with a 4 mm 3/8 drive that I bought a Sears and put in the new one. The OEM was was pretty sooted up so I cleaned it with CRC MAF sensor cleaner and now I have a spare. Guess I will add this to my maintenance schedule. I will be interested to see if it effect the mpg. I was down to about 16-17 towing the travel trailer when the nrom was 20.

Mine was pretty gunked up with around 20,000 miles on it. After cleaning, I didn't notice any improvements. Kind of hard to imagine as bad as it was. Did you take the wire harness loose to have better access to the screw? I did and replaced the keeper nuts with some 6mm lock nuts.
