It's OK if VW brings diesel SUVs into the US before Jeep gets one in the Wrangler or back in the Libby. I could live with that.
I RESPECT vw's, they are reliable and have diesel history. The Tourag and the other VW cross-over concepts are respectable...and my American-ness (American-hood?) isn't threatened.

But Hyundai Sante Fe? If soccer mom UTE's are diesels before we even get a f-ing sh-tty-a$$ed Compass diesel, I will absolutley have to move out of this country and stop buying Jeeps out of embarrassment.

If Jeep does not take the lead on US Diesels, they deserve to die since with the rest of the pathetic, US automaker dinosaurs. The CRD libby proved we will pay more for a diesel in the place where it belongs: a power-hungry american BEAST that can dominate the off-road market....and be alt-fuel ready and energy efficient to keep this country on its own legs.

How many more times do we have to scream for diesel vehicles before we get them? I think I am freaking out a little...mmm perhaps too much time in this forum? Time for some early Sunday drinking....

It says they do not want to be first just fast to follow. Sounds like to me they want another Co. to come up with the tech. so they can buy it and use it.

They did say Urea Injection as in Blutec of MB technology.

You missed another really big story, Peugeot diesel LeMans Racer is set to take on Audi's V10 diesel in the race series. The 700 hp 100* V8 should be fun to watch and this may mean the real birth of diesel in the auto's future. But then there is always CARB and their trying to stop diesel useage and producction.

My rental here in Ireland is a Hyundai Tucson diesel!!! 1.6LCRD.

Actually, I put too many Km on it. so the rental company wanted it back....

So, I had to trade it off just today, for a VW Passet, brand-spankin' new... TDi Of course!!! :D

Missing my Libby back home. The wife was saying something about a tire pressure idiot light... let the DC games begin!

Just means she has had tire(s) drop to 32 psi or lower for some reason, as that is the minium recommended tire pressure. Tell her to air up the tires to at least 36 psi, if she is running a stock OEM tire. Those tires are rated to 44 psi and wear poorly below 36 psi and down around or below 32 psi they over heat from excessive flex and are easy blown out at interstate speeds.

Yes, they are using a license from VM Motori to build their own diesel engines on VM's designs. So is GM in China in a partnership arrangement with Daewoo, with a license from VM Motori.

FYI - you do realize Hyundai is a huge company - from worlds largest ship builder to computers - they started in construction equipment and build lots of things with diesels - not to mention that if a company is serious about selling in Europe they have to offer diesel. Just not in the US.

Ditto on this. If they sell in EU then they already have diesels...either from their own R&D or they outsource them from someone like VM.

OK, had some beer, calmed down.

But would you buy a diesel Sante Fe if it was offered before the DCX got off their butt?

100k mi warrentee and they are CHEAP! With the serious money you save, that leaves room for a lot of mods.....

I drove a Santa Fe rental once...I think it was a 2005. I kind of liked it, so I would def consider it if it were offered in Diesel with the same warranty they have on their other vehicles. I wonder what will happen when China gets into the mix over here in the US?

And don't forget the spare tire. My low tire indicator went off because I let my spare's tire pressure drop too far.

I would certainly consider one...Hyundai doesnt do to bad in the ratings department. It would be no replacement for the KJ CRD though. I would probably look more closely at a small diesel car from them, a real gas saver with a super warranty at a good price, and ratings that rival lexus? Yeah I would consider that.

100K mile warranty? Really? It wasn't the beer talking, was it? If they make a Liberty-sized vehicle with off road and towing capacity then why buy a jeep for any reason other than it says "Jeep" on it?

Well, that's what the ads say (10 year or 100mi, same with Kia, I think). I never went to a Hyudai dealer before. Anyone hear want to fess up to owning a Hyundai and give us the details?

anyone?.....Bueller?....(cricket...cricket).

I traded the wife's 2003 Sonata LX [read LOADED!] for the Libby. [striking head against the brick wall..why, why, why?]

Bought it for $18K Yes there really is a 10 yr/100K mile warranty! However, service as we all know is quite dealer dependant. I took it in to the dealer I purchased it from to have an oil change and I had a list of small, minor things that I thought would be covered under that great warranty. I told them if there was going to be any cost to me besides the oil change outside of the warranty, to call me first before doing ANY work.

Of course they called, and wanted $1200 to take care of my laundry list of things!!! I said don't touch the car I am on the way to get it. they tried real hard to tell me that items on the list were caused by "excessive wear and tear" therefore not covered. The dealer is Herb Chambers Hyundai in Auburn, MA. It is a big multi-line dealer. Pick your make and there is a Herb Chambers dealer near you. Good prices horrible service. I told them I want my keys where is the car. The service writer handed me a bill for $56 for the oil change! I said,"I told you to NOT Do ANY work!" He said, "you told me, outside of the oil change." I paid the $56 and never ever went back.

Now the good news. I went to a REAL Hyundai dealer 30 minutes farther from my home and with the same list in hand, took the car there. EVERYTHING was replaced under warranty!!! I added onto the list the front inner fender skirts that I had cracked pulling up too close to a tire bumper. Ground clearance on the Sonata is quite small. They only charged me for one side saying, "yes I see here the scrape marks on the left one, but we couldn't find any reason the right one broke, so we covered it under warranty. O.K?" Gladly!!! Heck BOTH were my fault so I was ready to shell out big bucks!

The following spring, a squirrel decided that he liked the cozy little cave called my heater core and the HEPA filter made nice bedding. Needless to say, another trip to the dealer because the blower made so much racket I could hardly stand to drive it to the dealer. Once again, EVERYTHING replaced under warranty. The service order just said, "blower motor assy. bearing failure." Needless to say, I was very pleased with the dealer and even though it was out of the way, I took the car there even for routine maintenance. They are Route 2 Hyundai in Leominister, MA.

During one service I said, " could you replace the headlight? The left one is out." When I came back, I never asked them to call me with a estimate I trusted them that much. When they called to say the car was ready, they apologized that I had to pay for the fog light on the opposite side that they found out. [ I forgot to mention it to them] When I arrived, my oil change and one lamp was all I paid for. Headlights are covered under the warranty so they replaced both. The fog light was not. It seems that, they are installed here at the dock so they aren't covered.

Moral to the story, the warranty is as good as the dealer performing the service. We went back to them to buy a Santa Fe but because Hyundai turned their reputation around, The prices had shot up.

Dummy me went and traded it for a Libby.......

Oh I forgot to say, over a year ago my wife had a head on crash with it. An 18 yo kid turned left in front of her. Totaled his mother's Escort, the Sonata had $8K in damage, it was repaired, and ran and drove great till the day I traded it in... now why did I buy the Libby????? Oh yeah, because the Santa Fe isn't offered in diesel... yet!

dad
