I have a 2005 CRD with 78,000 miles on it and have this issue. I will be travelling on the highway using cruise and it all of a sudden will cut out. Not only does it disengage, but the cruise light on the dash also goes out. When I attempt to restart, it will not. That is to say, it won't engage and the dash light will not light up. If I hit all the buttons 5 or 6 times each, it usually will come on again and work properly. Sometimes the cruise will not work from the time I start the vehicle until I do the button dance I spoke of. I think it is wiring, but I am not sure. If it is wiring, I am not sure where to start to properly troubleshoot the problem. Or, is this an issue I need to go to a dealer with. Thanks for any guidance you can provide.
