Post subject:  Interesting Observation

We're sitting in a nice campground in NV watching RV's come and go. Probably 60% of the RV's are motorhomes towing a run-a-round car. What is interesting is noting that the most popular towed vehicle seems to be Jeeps. Of these the majority are Liberty's, followed by Wranglers, then Grand Cherokees/Cherokees.

Of the Libbys, not a single one has been a CRD. Seems to me that the owners are missing a bet not having a CRD as most motorhomes are diesel.

We're the only ones here using a Jeep as a tow vehicle (our GC).

I believe this is because jeeps are very easy to flat tow, and for the most part are pretty cheap to purchase.

not many new SUV's have a neutral in there transfer case, and with out that you can't flat tow an AT.

Post subject:  As another poster said-

Its because you can put the transfer cse in neutral. You are able to disconnect the tranny in sautrns too (somehow). Thats why you also see a lot of saturns being towed. I have no idea why diesel motorhome owners don't try to match fuel types up between their home and their tow. Thats how I would do it. One of these days I'll try to get some diesel outboards for my boat! (once I get a boat)

Yep, the vehicles are called "toads" by the RVers and Jeeps with the "neutral" in the transfercase make them the best "toads" out there. You can flat tow Jeeps and not remove the driveshaft ( others have to remove the driveshaft to save a transmission from overheating from constantly turning ). Seems like the Liberty replaced the Cherokee when it comes to a "toad" :P

On a one day trip we took a few weeks ago I saw a Silver CRD being pulled by one of those land crusiers in Ohio. It's tags indicated it was from north central Ohio :D
